  • Ziploc Ice Cream

    Ziploc Ice Cream
    (a low carb classic)

    ½ cup heavy cream (3)
    1 t vanilla (trace)
    2 packets Splenda (2)
    1 sandwich size ziploc bag
    1 quart size ziploc bag
    Ice
    4 T rock salt

Mix cream, vanilla and splenda together and pour in sandwich bag and seal. Fill quart bag half way with ice and add rock salt. Put sandwich bag into quart bag and seal. Shake bag for about 5-6 minutes (burn some calories, put your favorite song on and dance). Open bag, remove ice cream (rinse off sandwich bag before opening).

To save on carbs, instead of using vanilla and Splenda, use DaVinci's Vanilla Sugarfree Syrup.

Serves 1, 5 carbs w/Splenda, 3 carbs w/DaVinci syrup. I would wait until OWL before trying it.

You can use regular old table salt. It works just fine

Don't eat the whole 1/2 cup though - it sits like a rock in your stomach and you'll be sorry if you do! LOL

And not being a chef, I assume that lower case t is teaspoon and capital T is tablespoon?

        Does kosher salt work too?

OH and one other question. I don't have packets of splenda, but buy the pourable box. How do I convert two packets to a usable pourable amount, since I know that the pourable has additional fillers that are not in the packets.

          Thanks for all your help!

I use 1.5x the amount of granular in place of packets.

            And yes, t=teaspon, T=tablespoon

              Thanks Brook!

I winged it last night...used too much vanilla and didn't shake long enough, but it was still yummy. I used a quart bag and think it was just too big. The cream spread all over the bag, so there I was - scraping it off the sides. I didn't have the heart to turn the bag inside out and lick

                ROFL!

Good stuff, isn't it? I haven't made it in months again.....I think I'll wait until the first really hot day

Glad it worked out for you!

                  Yeah -- I felt like a spaz

Felt like a complete goon shaking my little bag o' cream...but hey -- the stuff tastes pretty damn good. Smashed up a few raspberries and threw them in there w/ a little unsweetened cocoa. Mmmm....chocolate raspberry truffles....ok -- maybe not quite...but surprisingly good. Although I have the same issues w/ this stuff as I do w/ ben and jerry's...I don't want to stop. I managed to, and it certainly satisfied that ice cream pang I've had for a while...but I doubt I'll be making this on any kind of regular basis. I know we count carbs more than cals...but at 800+ a cup...it's definitely a ONCE in a while treat. I was wondering if anyone knew the counts on extracts, cuz they're not listed on the bottles..I know melbaby counted Vanilla as 2 -- but where'd you get that from? I know it has some, because it's 35% alcohol but has corn syrup in it (EEEEEK!!)...but I know a lot of other extracts..i.e. orange, mint etc are like 80% alcohol and no corn syrup..I would assume these would be better alternatives. Just a thought....chocolate mint?

Anyways -- the stuff's amazingly tasty...but I guess it should be...it's essentially a frozen bag of fat --- yuck!

                  Paul

p.s. As I was sitting here feeling like a dork shaking my bag, I had a flash back to when I was a kid. Does anyone remember a product called "Shake a Puddin'"?? Or something to that effect? I think you'd have to be at least 35 to remember your mom having you shake this crap for what seemed like eons just to get some pudding. Was just wondering if I was dreaming this, or perhaps it was some sort of torture my mom came up with on her own, or if the stuff actually existed.

I got the counts on the vanilla extract at Fitday.com. Personally, I use DaVinci's sugar free vanilla syrup in place of vanilla and Splenda - it has no carbs at all.

And thank you for making it sound oh so tempting as being a frozen bag of fat. LMAO!! For some of us, getting our fat in is a big big problem, so we don't mind a frozen baggie of it.

And what the heck is Shake A Puddin? But you said you had to be 35 to remember it...and I'm 10 years too young for that. :P
