  • I know it sounds crazy, but....

....Despite 90degree weather, I've been dying for a cup of hot chocolate. I'm not sure what ingredients were used in the recipe I drank growing up (its a 'family secret' that you don't get until you start a family) but it creates a thick very creamy drink. I think its simular to the recipe on the back of hershey's baking cocoa (using a packet of splenda and thinned out cream) but its no where near as thick.

Any ideas? Even if it takes more dairy than I'm suppose to technically have, I'd rather cheat as little as possible than have family send me the 'mix' which I'm sure is loaded with sugar and carbs (I figure something makes it thick--cake flour?? corn starch?)

    any ideas would be helpfull!!!

I use unsweetened soymilk, cream, cocoa (have you tried the "dark" cocoa?) sugar free vanilla syrup, and steam it all together with a latte machine.
It's been trial and error to find the right mix of everything.

you can try irish moss!!! it makes stuff thick just strain it...if you can not find it I think there is a cocoa recipe made with heavy cream in the recipe section ...I make a pot of coffee and then add some cocoa powder to taste heavy cream, if you want sweetener and a dash of vanilla ...this is a mocha but really good ...I can have chocolate anytime ....it is my addiction...and I am not giving it up for anything....

you are going to be surprized at how much your tastes are going to change now that you have been without for a while. I can drink my cocoa with just water as they do in other countries and just a bit of cream makes it very rich to me now. there are low carb thickeners and the one Nursey mentioned is actually used in milk shakes and ice cream but it is called Carrageen.
