  • Cuban coffee recipe :)

Oh what the heck I can not be the only one on the planet who accidently had this today with brunch ..in bed

2 shots Cuban coffee (sure use decaf espresso if you have to but since I have always lived on the edge I like the real stuff )
    1 shot sf coffee syrup
    2 shots rum
    2 tbl whipping cream
    pinch of cinnamon

    should make enough for two

the result of drinking this is that you want to move but not go anywhere

      Re: Cuban coffee recipe

My favourite tends to change, but today I had an espresso with some heavy cream and a Splenda tab. My husband is an espresso purest and he thinks this is sacriledge.

One that I have tried and liked is a double espresso and a shot of DaVinci's SF Irish Cream and some heavy cream. I have SF DaVinci's Kahlua, maybe I'll give that a try. At home I do drink decaf espresso, because coffee tends to up my blood sugar. Illy makes a nice decaf as does Lavazza.

Today we were out in one of those little towns with the quaint shops (very touristy) and hubby said lets stop at a cafe. We sit down and homemade potato chips are on the table, which he digs into. After we order our espressos, he notices that next door is a bakery, runs next door and comes back with chocolate mousse.

Pre-Atkins, I used to make a coffee icy---into blend: cold coffee, ice cubes, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, whirl, pour and drink.

I've done it using cream and sugar substitute with good results....in fact, coffee drinks are the only thing the Davinci syrups are palatable in. imo, when used in other recipes, those syrups taste really, really fake---especially the 'chocolate' flavored syrups because they have a strong candle wax aroma, imo.

          Irish Coffee (my low-carb adjustment)
          Original Shannon Recipe
          • Heat a stemmed whiskey goblet.
          • Pour in one shot of Irish whiskey.
          • Add splenda to taste.
          • Fill with strong black coffee (or espresso) to within one inch of top. Stir gently.
          • Top off to the brim with heavy cream slightly aerated.
Important: Do not stir after adding cream, as the true flavor is obtained by drinking the coffee and whiskey through the cream.

Note: American whipping cream has an additive to increase shelf life. This detracts from ability to stay on top of mixture.

Uhm, I'm really boring. I go to Border's and get a small coffee with a shot of sf caramel syrup. Lame!...but so good.

Heidi, DH tried your Cuban recipe last night. Had to sub DaVinci's SF Kaluha for the coffee syrup, but it turned out well and he said to say thanks. Now we need more rum.

I have never heard of that type of rum.. I will have to look for it here.. I love the flavor of a good rum..especially a dark one ..and there is something so right about dark rum and coffee that is for sure!!!
you should be able to get good Cuban coffee there.as well ..I drink it in Canada all the time....for some stupid reason we can't Cuban anything here ... (Ok I know the reason I am just being a smart asss because I think it is beyond stupid!!!)

I am glad he liked it!!

Heidi, that isn't the brand of the rum, but the origin - Dominican Republic. Can't tell you the brand because he finished it and threw out the bottle. Sorry for the confusion.
