We are the same in that respect Megs! I could care less about the sweets! I bet the chex mix spices would be good, does she use a variety of nuts or all one kind?

Now that sounds yummy! There are so many like pumpkin seeds and pine nuts that would be good in it I bet!

Right now, I'm cooking the butter spice almonds recipe, using pecans. The house smells so warm and homey, which is great because it's an ugly rainy day.

Megs - should the almonds for the butter spice recipe be 'peeled' or with the skins on?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

She didn't specify, but I think either would do.

Re: Weekend Food Experiment (April 15-16)

OK, I found some yummy new flavor of Blue Diamond Almonds, but unforturnatley they use sugar and corn starch among a bunch of other things that I cannot even pronounce in their spice mixture. So, I'd like to try some homemade ones. The flavor is "Bold Wasabi & Soy Sauce"

Question is this, can I put a liquid like Soy in the crockpot and have it flavor the nuts w/o making mushy mess? I think I can probably use Wasabi powder with no problems. But I'm not sure how to achieve the soy taste. Any ideas?

Re: Weekend Food Experiment (April 15-16)

I've been doing experiments with these nuts and I've found that if you roast the nuts with a light coating of oil, maybe a tablespoon for every pound of nuts, the spices stick to the nuts better. Also if the spices are added towards the last 4 minutes of the roasting, they stick better and don't have a burned/cooked taste to them.

So, maybe you can put the soy into a saucepan and boil it until it reduces by half. Add the warm reduced soy to the almost done nuts, stir well and then toss in the wasabi powder.

That sounds like a good plan! Now I need to get to the Oriental store to pick up some wasabi powder!
