  • Frozen Seafood

Alright, Im big on FRESH not frozen foods. I am craving seafood like a mad woman. My beloved oysters are going out of season so I wont be finding them. At the moment Im wanting lobster. But..... I cant toss a crustacean into boiling water myself and I also cant split it while still alive. (I like crustaceans personally, keep hermit crabs as pets as well as a species of freshwater shrimp). I have found frozen lobster tails. Im nervous about frozen tails. but god I want split broiled tails with butter.

Has anyone used frozen lobster tails before? How do you prepare them? thaw them inthe fridge? cold running water? toss them on still frozen (I doubt)?

I need help folks. My names Yvette and I have a seafood craving/addiction.

I may try to make Mogs bacon oysters (my personal whooshie food and nectar of the gods!) with shrimp. Im not usually a fan of scallops but heck, wrapped in bacon, Ill try anything!

I love shrimp wrapped in bacon on the grill. I peel and devein them (I leave the tails on) they I put them in a bowl with lots of garlic and basil and let them marinate for an hour or two, then I wrap them in the bacon and grill! Yum, they're delicious!

Last time I bought frozen lobster tails they weren't very good. Who knows how long they had been frozen.

How about scallops? You can wrap those babies in bacon and grill them too, if you get the big ones. Or Shrimp scampi..lots of garlic butter and a little olive oil and stick them in the oven under the broiler for a couple of minutes! Yum.

I'm a big Old Bay Seasoning lover! I like shrimp in the shell boiled with lots of Old Bay --you just get the water boiling, add the seasoning and once it comes to a good rolling boil throw in the shrimp, they're ready in a matter of minutes, as soon as they turn pink! They're good hot dipped in butter, or even chilled and dipped in some homemade cocktail sauce!

you can make a great curry with frozen seafood ...prawns scallops whatever

but one of my favorites is to saute some really smokey bacon in a pan then chopped shallots and a splash of wine...cook it down to almost nothing add some cream and the frozen seafood of your choice cook a bit...then salt and pepper to taste ..serve ...wonderful with any shell fish or fish fish

Oh Calamari! I love calamari! I like it cleaned and grilled whole, just make a few slices in it to keep it from curling up, I brush it with soy sauce as its cooking!

                            Re: Frozen Seafood

About the lobster question, my DH buys me a giant frozen lobster tail and cooks it for my birthday. This has been going on for over 20 years. He thaws the wrapped tail in a bowl of water in the fridge. When its time to cook, he unwraps it and rinses under cold water then throws the whole thing into a pot of boiling water for 1 minute (no more), then puts the tail on the BBQ and grills until its done. You can use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The boiling part makes it easy to remove the shell, and the grilling part gives wonderful flavour. Dipped in hot butter and served with a small filet mignon (also grilled) a grilled portobello mushroom and sauteed asparagus is definitely one of my favourite meals.
