Yep, that's the one that they sell at the Arabian grocery here. I love it! We used to fry it in EVOO and eat it with Pita bread...we used the bread to soak up the extra EVOO. Man that stuff was such a great breakfast!

JImmie, you asked about almond flour, I get mine from the bulk bins at Whole Foods. But I know that Bob's Red Mill sells it in the bags, its just way more expensive that way! They wanted 16 bucks for 1 lb of it at Harris Teeter! I'm trying to remember what I paid at WF, I think it was like 1/2 that price

I've only found it at the Arabian Grocery/Bakery-- the Halloumi that is.

Yep, sounds like Road Trip time to me! Harris Teeter also sells stuff from bulk bins so check for the almond flour there--or if you're ambitious like some of the other girls you can just buy the almonds and grind your own in a coffee grinder.

Re: Queso Blanco (Mexican Frying Cheese)

The local supermarkets in my area are locally owned, with the exception of Safeway. And they are in direct competition with places like Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc. So they have expanded their supermarkets to be more like Whole Foods and TJ, by offering organic alternatives, specialty foods (like products for Gluten-free diets), and a broader international foods section. That's why I can buy queso blanco and halloumi at my local supermarket.

But if you have ethnic markets nearby, by all means, look for these things there. Also ask the clerk or other customers how they prepare it. Usually, they are nice enough to tell you.

                  Editing to add....

I was able to buy a rather large brick of it last year and did a number of experiments with it....I tried stuffing it into jalapenos and frying it. Didn't work as well as I had hoped.

YAY! And my jalepeno's are coming on fast! I've already picked about 6 and I think there may be at least that many more getting close to ready, I'm going to let them get really big though so I can stuff them full of cheese and shrimp!

Jimmiejo, here is a scan of the cheese. I found it at Sam's Club this morning.

OK, so, nonstick skillet, little to no oil. Gotcha. I tried "deep frying" it and all I did was make a mess! LOL.

The almond flour I found at Albertson's, but yeah, it was expensive. Mark's Mom sends it to me from Trader Joe's up there in Ohio. Way cheaper!!
Somebody mentioned www.netrition.com has it as well. I haven't checked to see their prices on it yet. But, I have ordered a lot of things from them and they have been great. Really quick delivery.

That's the brand of queso blanco I get.

Pan-fry it. I can imagine the mess deep frying made!

It was in the baking aisle here. It's a small, clear bag. About a pound I think.

I saw that recipe from Linda's site, and that's what I tried earlier. Mine did not look like that at all. They melted all over the place!
