  • Broccoli and peppers

Do you have any tips or something to add to the taste of broccoli? Currently, I'm eating it boiled or fried and it's too plain for my tastes, so do you know anything that might spice it up a little bit?

I feel the same way about peppers, but I'm thinking of putting them in a sauce. Do you know any nice Atkins-friendly sauces I could make and add peppers to?

    Thanks for your help.

I cook broccoli in stir fry. Protein of your choice, the broccoli, a bit of hot pepper flakes, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and a tablespoon of dry sherry.

I also make broccoli slaw from the broccoli stalks.

For peppers, if they're red or yellow, I usually eat them raw or I roast them, peel them and puree them. That puree I use either as a sauce base or as a soup base.

If they're green, I eat them raw or I use them in stir fries, mixed veggie sautees, or stuff them with a meat mixture.

There is a dish called piperade. It's a mixture of peppers, green, red, yellow, etc., sliced in thin long lengths. They are sauteed with onion, garlic, really whatever herbs and spices you like. It's eaten on its own as a side dish or it's used as filling for omelettes and fritattas.

Peppers are great sauteed with some onion, butter, and a bit of low-carb beer (if you are out of induction).

Similarly Broccoli is very good with a cheese sauce or vodka cream sauce.
