  • Faux Bacon and Eggs...friend or faux? :)

I was browsing through my fridge trying to get a heads up on what to make for dinner tonight, and make breakfast at the same time (multitasking is great sometimes), I was wondering...if any folks have a preferance over real bacon and eggs or faux (turkey) bacon and eggs (whites)?

Since DH came home with a glowing report of having a high cholestoral count after going through a yearly physical for work, I've switched to buying Turkey Bacon and Egg Beaters to try to help cut down the amount of cholestrol intake. His family has a hereditary background of HC, and after nagging him for, oh 14 years, and seeing the numbers in black and white, he's changing his eating habits. Who says a tiger can't change his stripes?

Besides, we've both found that we enjoy the "meaty" taste of the turkey bacon and have learned to spice up the eggs with seasoning. Not to forget to mention that to pour eggs from a carton is a heck of a lot easier to do when you're in a hurry and out camping in the wilderness I still buy the "real" eggs because I like to make those little fluffy Atkins "rolls" (oh, those little pieces of heaven).

Sorry, this is such a long post, but it was the only way I could get it out of my head and out here...LOL...

Any thoughts on Real versus Faux?

I occasionally make turkey bacon, but I fry it in REAL bacon grease. The problem with eating egg whites and turkey bacon is that they are disproportionately higher in protein than the real thing. This means you must add extra fat to keep your ratios of 65/5/30 intact. I've found that turkey bacon also has more carbs than real bacon.

For atkins, since this is a HIGH-FAT diet, and not high-protein, eating the real thing is a better option.
