  • The dreaded food court!

I'm a mall rat. I admit it, and make no excuses for it. I might seek help for it later though...

So when you find yourself facing the dazzling spectacle that is the mall food court, what do you opt for in a pinch? I need some options for when I'm out 'n about that won't blow my whole diet!

Salads and meat are the most obvious choices. Skipping the dressing might be a good idea though... you never know if they add sugar to it.

Mexican: Taco salad (add lots of salsa and ask for guac/sourcream if it doesn't come with it, don't eat the shell), taco (ask for sour cream and guacamole and do not eat the tortillas)

Mongolian: Easy, veges and meat all you can stuff in a bowl for one price. The best value and best choice.

Burgers: Ask for lettuce wrap (many places now accommodate that without batting an eyelash)

Chicken sandwich: grilled (non-breaded) with a side salad and remove the bun or ask for lettuce wrap.

Salads: Chef or Cobb are best. Tuna or chicken salad are great. Caesar with chicken (minus those tempting croutons) is nice.

Avoid chinese (too much fried and sauces that you can't be sure of) and Italian (pretty much all carb with cheese). Just focus on what you like then scan the menu to see how you can Atkin-ize it. Don't be led astray by the wafting scent of Cinnabon or the Hot Dog On A Stick gals stomping the lemons. Think MEAT and VEGES and you'll find plenty in a mall to eat.

I'll often get a side salad and a hamburger. I toss the bun, and crumble the hamburger over the salad. It's a nice change up from the grilled chicken that usually accompanies a fast-food salad, and the greasy burger makes up for the lack of dressing which usually includes sugar when pre-packaged at a restaurant.

If you're sure there's no sugar. Some commercially prepared meat salads have sugar added.
