I tend to cook my flax meal with butter, splenda and cinnamon by itself till it gets hot and a little crispy, then add the cream. btw if flax isn't helping you get regular try drinking more water with it, if you dont it might just make it worse. working out regularly helps too.

You can get it at an international market or any Health Food store

only when needed. We should avoid it if we do not need to have it. It is good for regularity though but for some it can stall the weight. Extra water should be consumed if the flaxseed isnt doing any good. Lots of water is always a good things and flushes out more than just the bladder and kidneys.

Based on the below info it has .5 net carb as 7.7g of the carb is fiber but because it is a seed we have to be careful not to stall ourselves out.

          Carbohydrate 8.2g
          Dietary Fiber 7.7g

I think there's some confusion in this thread. Flax is perfectly legal for Induction even if you are not constipated, as long as you use it as your daily fiber supplement (limited to 1 tbsp per day). In larger quantities or if you prefer psyllium husks or wheat bran as a fiber supplement, flax is only allowed from OWL Rung 3 on.

            DANDR 2002, Ch. 8:
I recommend that you take one tablespoon of psyllium husks daily. Be sure to select a sugar-free product. You can also take one tablespoon of coarse wheat bran or flaxseed meal.
For those who want to know the carb count for flax seeds, you can check FitDay, Calorie King, the USDA database, etc.

Something else. Flax seeds used as a fiber supplement (1 tbsp = 6.5 g or 0.2 oz) will likely not stall you. If you eat a lot of flax (like, for example, 1/4 cup, as in a 1-minute muffin), then you might experience some water weight gain, because of the soluble fiber in flax. In any case, you are only allowed to play with flax as a food in OWL, when you can try adding it back in 1-oz amounts (the limit for nuts and seeds), every other day. This allows you to see your reaction to it.

I'm glad I found this! I tried it this morning (just 1 Tbsp. of flax meal) and it was delicious. Dh and I are doing Atkins together and he has been having some bathroom issues, so hopefully this will help him out!
