  • Anything I can make in my new deep fat fryer!

I already have some Atkins All-Purpost Batter Mix in my cupboard that I've never used. I also have mozzarella sticks and prawns that I will be trying with the batter today. Any other interesting ideas for me?

I finally made fried mushrooms with parmesan cheese batter the other night, and they were SOOOOOOOOO good! Just dip the mushrooms in egg, then into the grated cheese, and fry away. Makes the purtiest dang fried coating you ever saw! :yes

That sounds fabulous! I hadn't even thought of putting parmesan in the batter.

Atkins All-Purpost Batter Mix is not allowed on induction.

Just crush up some pork rinds, add alot of parm cheese and a little garlic salt and you have your breading! Fry it up!

I fry unbreaded chicken wings until crisp ... Yum!!

Thanks, but per dandr re-induction does not need to be 2 weeks. I was already deep in ketosis yesterday and have been through enough rungs of the carb ladder know what I should be eating.

I prefer the parmesean coating to the Atkins stuff but to each their own.

I've done the mushrooms, zuccini slices, eggplant, squash, cheese (egg, parmesean and then freeze before frying so the cheese doesn't run out)

Chicken wings either with or w/o the parmesean breading are good. When you take them out put the wing sauce on ( Frank's Hot sauce and butter is my favorite recipe for the sauce)

You can deep fry Kale, it only takes a couple of seconds and it tastes kinda like popcorn/chips, I like mine sprinkled with Old Bay seasoning.

Coat chicken strips (fingers) with the egg, parmesean, and spices and fry for homemade delicious chicken fingers, you can dip them in some ranch or whatever you like.

Hi motherofgizmo, ignore the other post with question about the kale. I read that one first. I will try that today! And thanks for commenting on the cheese sticks and freezing them first. Hubby and I were just discussing that. I tried the Atkins batter and it didn't kick me out of ketosis, but it wasn't very tasty even though I added parmesan to it. Also, it made my oil murky and goobers stuck everywhere in the basket. I think starting with anything 'battered' frozen my be a good idea.
The chicken strips sound really good too.

My BF likes the chicken strips better than the regular breading. Be sure and add some spices to the parmesean to make it a even tastier. Just add what you would add to your regular fried chicken recipe! They are even good cold for lunch the next day or to keep in the fridge for a quick snack!

Okay, I tried the kale at lunch at 350 degrees for about 1.50 minutes. It was really a suprising feel in my mouth some like eating just phylo without any filling. I think I salted it too much, but it was otherwise a nice treat. I think I'll make some more and maybe sprinkle it with parmesan.

Forgive me if this is a weird question...

Isn't kale sort of like a green, leafy, lettuce? Or am I wrong?

(I'm trying to imagine what would happen if I deep fried a lettuce-type item.)

Yep, that'd be it! Its a leathery lettcue. I comes out like very thin very crispy little chip type snack. Try it, its delicious! Some folks say it reminds them of popcorn.

How about ribs? You can season some baby back ribs with a dry rub, and throw those babies in the fryer. mmm

Hmmm, that sounds interesting. I've never had ribs fried. ensive

Watched a show about hotdogs last nite and there is a place that's susposed to be famous for their "fried dogs" They fry them in really hot grease until they split open, said it makes them "pop" when you bite into them.

My family has a restaurant in Michigan, and they deep fry the ribs. They put a dry rub on them, deep fry them, then put the bbq sauce on, and stick them in the broiler for a minute or two.

Sounds delicious, you probably get a nice crispy layer on the outside that way! I don't have a deep fryer, but if I ever get one, I'll have to try it! :yes
