Anyone know of a sugar-free substitute for molasses? If you want to know why, there's this old Filipino food called Taho that is basically Atkins friendly if I can only replace the molasses. Omitting the tapioca is easy enough.
Moe info here:
Taho, a by-product of soy bean curd, is sold in the Philippines as a sweet snack. In the Philippines, when we say taho, we are referring to a sweet snack made with bean curd, arnibal (liquefied raw sugar similar to molasses) and sago (tapioca balls). Strictly speaking, however, taho is the bean curd itself. It used to be a very popular street food. When I was a child, taho vendors were a common sight even on city streets. Carrying two aluminum vats--one containing the taho and the other containing the arnibal and sago--suspended on a wooden rod, these ambulant vendors called out to the people… Tahooooo! Tahooooo! Having taho for a mid-afternoon snack was something my brother and I often enjoyed.
