Hi there! In a couple of weeks I will be going on a long car ride (we'll be driving from Orlando Florida to Buffalo New York) and I need some help...

I need some snack ideas for the trip (things I can pack in the car with us) and also some tips on how to go to restaurants for about two weeks and still stay on my low-carb eating plan... (without eating just salads and meat the entire time)

OR some ideas on things I can keep stashed in our hotel room, that don't really need to be refrigerated...

I don't want to blow my diet, but I'm scared that it will be too difficult to maintain this WOL while traveling. Please help me!!

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much!!

    Re: Travel recipes

I have done a fair amount of travelling during the last year while being on plan the total time, and infact losing weight during that time as well. If it was a car trip, I brought with a cooler, for cheese, pepperoni stick, cold cuts, vegies, beef jerky. Even while being in a hotel, I requested a room with an efficiency, so there was a microwave and small fridge in it. Then we arrived, we would go to the grocery store & buy some legal munchies, pork rinds, some fruit & nuts (if you're in the right rung). Eating in restaurants is even easier, you just tell them what to hold! Most restaurants are quite obliging, and many have lc menues.

      Re: Travel recipes

My husband travels allot and this is what he does:
He brings the George foreman and for dinner he can pick up a piece of meat and veggies(mushrooms and zuccini are wonderful on the george foreman) and throw them on in the hotel room. Super easy and easy to clean. I send seasonings, paper plates, and silverware. Also most stores have small deli trays available. Walmarts got a big one with pepperoni, salami and two kinds of cheese for about $9. If your hotel has a microwave and/or fridge and many of them do nowadays, the possibilities are endless. Some have them for a small fee, you have to ask.

For the car ride, I'd bring poptop cans or pouches of tuna(you can get packets of mayo at gas stations), pork skins, cheese, raw brocoli ,celery, and cauliflower with dip(think veggie tray at a grocery store you pass if you don't want to prepare all of that)...

wow, there's some great ideas... I never thought of bringing my George forman grill... I've got a small one that would travel very well!! And along that note, you think I could bring my little crock pot also? (it's a mini one) I could make up some soups in it... maybe not... I'm not sure how much we will actually be in the hotel... but for those nights that we find ourselves there, the george forman grill will come in handy!!

          thanks so much!!
