  • I know tossing the bun is good but what about the sauce?

For example if i order a burger from Burgerking or Mcdonald, etc. I toss the buns then there are sauce on it which might contain sugar (ketchup, mustard, mayonase). Arn't any body afraid of this? What do you do?

Well, you can always tell them to hold the ketchup when they make the burger .

A little bit that rubs off from a bun won't be a big deal anyway unless they slather the thing, but generally mayo and mustard are fine, the McDs 'special sauce' and ketchup should be avoided.

      Mustard should be fairly safe?

When I order I always go inside to order, I also make sure to tell them that I want whichever buger with no ketchup or mayo.. with extra mustard and pickles. Most places are more than willing to make special burgers. If that doesn't work tell them you are allergic to tomato and eggs and that you would like no mayo or ketchup on your sandwich.

From what I understand you can get it with a sauce, but we don't have In & Out out East, so, I have not had one recently enough to remember what the content was.

Hmmm.. I don't know, but it gives me an excuse to go by there for dinner tomorrow.

I'd say just to NOT take chances, everytime you order a sandwich from ANY fast food place "Hold the ketchup and sauce please".. but keep the mustard and pickles. I'd be careful with the mayo too.. I've read that a lot of mayos have sugars in them (not a big mayo fan.. I keep a bottle of the carb options mayo at work and home as well as a bottle of the atkins ketchup) so just to be safe I'd order without the mayo also. Keep condiments that you CAN use at home and at work, or if you're on the go invest in a small cooler or insulated lunch bag and keep some cold packs in there with your condiments. Better safe than sorry?

Aren't most the "secret" sauces like at McDonalds and In&Out just Thousand Island dressing anyway? I could be wrong. What about making your own special sauce with Atkin friendly mayo, ketchup, mustard, seasoning and some relish or onions?

A lot of mayos have trace carbs, but I have yet to see any Mayo that would actually cause any damage from the carb content.
