  • Outback steakhouse, TGIF Friday, Applebee's

Does anyone know if any of the restaurants in my subject line are Atkins friendly restaurants? I just got a bonus and I want to celebrate with my girlfriend.

I don't eat at Applebees or Fridays, but Outback is very Atkins friendly. Steak or chicken and order the veggies w/o carrots. (I get it without the squash, either, 'cuz I don't like it. Leaves snow peas and broccoli.)

My best advice, though, is don't go when they're busy. Food seems to suffer quite a bit...

I've had great luck at Outback. I get the "no rules burger" loaded with good stuff -- cheese, grilled onions, bacon, lettuce, tomato, blue cheese dressing, no bun -- and get roasted veggies (no carrots!) instead of fries.

At Friday's, I had a good burger w/veggies, as well.

At TGI Fridays I get a cup of french onion soup (tell them to leave off the crouton) for an appetizer, then grilled chicken salad. Yum!

Fridays will do most anything for you to get you want you want/need for your diet. (I was a trainer for them years ago).

You are so right. We went to Fridays last week for dinner. I had the chicken breasts on melted cheese (subbed cheddar for american/mexican) grilled peppers and onions and a salad. When I asked the waitress not to include carrots on the salad if they weren't already in the mix, she said she'd see what she could do. When she brought the salad to the table, she said she tried to pick it all out, but to beware she may have missed a piece or two. I was amazed that she'd pull it out of pre-made mix. Needless to say, her tip reflected her good service.

Practically any restaurant will substitute veggies for the potato. At Outback, we have gotten the wings with no flour (we asked and the server said thats all the breading is) and the hot sauce on the side. They are served with celery and blue cheese. Then salad with no croutons, steak with veggies instead of fries or potato and you are totally stuffed and totally induction legal. At Fridays and Applebees we have had great success ordering their burgers with choice of toppings and subbing the veggies for fries.
At first we thought we would get wierd looks or questions from the servers, but most barely blink when you ask for veggies, or ask to hold the bun. Its not as scary as I thought it would be.

Outback has Alice Springs Chicken...love it, melts in your mouth, melted montery-jack cheese, onions and I think mushrooms. I am not sure about the ingredients in the mustard sauce. It is sweet so must have sugar. I would love a makeover recipe for it if anyone has a hint to the ingredients. Also comes with fries, I don't know if they will substitute something for them. Most likely they would. Happy eating!

There's some good salads at Applebee's. If there's any tortilla strips in them, as them to hold those.

I read somewhere that Outback put sugar in the veggies...might ask to be sure and have them hold that if they do. Sounds strange, but you never know. Outback will not give out nutritional info on their foods, but you can ask the server if certain things contain flour or sugar or simply ask the server to have all flour/sugar held.

Outback Rocks for Atkins fr. food! Here's what I order:
Victoria's Center Cut Steak, Med...It's always perfect..doesn't even need A1.
It comes with 2 sides, I get the dinner salad and the fresh veggies. Give the kids the crutons from the salad and the carrotts from the veggies and youre good to go. (order the dressing on the side, they put alot.)
I also add on "Shrimp on the Barbie" for a couple bucks more, it's so worth it.
The hardest part is resisting the bread they put on the table before the food comes. Unfortunatly my husband would strangle me if I asked them not to bring it....I'm still convicing him I'm not gonna die of a heart attack as he believes. (just another excuse not to change his WOE, we've all been there, only time will convince him.)

Friday's Sizzling Chicken & Cheese is very good. I asked that they replace the mashed potatoes with the veggies and added a ceaser salad without croutons. The waitress immediately knew I was on Atkins and was more than happy to accomodate me. She said they get alot of requests to accomodate low carb meals.

I get the salads at Applebees. I don't eat the crutons or bread that comes with it. My dad'll eat it so it's not a big deal. Also, I get a med-rare steak. It comes with onions and potatos. I don't eat the potatos but I found that the onions are super good and I hate onions. I dont' think I could do Atkins without steak!

A friend of mine told me the other day that TGI Fridays was coming out with a low carb menu. Apparently about 20% of their customers are on low carb diets, and they are trying to accomidate them.

Applebees also has some new steaks...one comes with blue cheese melted on it...very good, but not the quality of Outback.
