The ONLY times I have ever lost weight without Atkins were during the two clinical depressions I had, 1985 (lost 40) and 2003/2004 (lost 80). During those times everything but chocolate or white bread tasted like cardboard ... or like I imagine cardboard would taste if I ate it.
I believe this was a feature of the altered chemistry in my mind/body due to low "happy hormones" (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, etc.). It's the one and only thing that's positive about depression.
