  • Where is everyone?

    Hey Guys,

When I first joined the Atkins Bulletin Board I thought great, a place to get advice on both doing atkins and diabetes. But since I've been here I've noticed that the Diabetes Forum is rairly visited and that the most recent posts remain unanswered. This is not only discouraging for the poster but for others who would like some info on the same question raised.

    IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?

To get some activity it would be good to state a problem, ask a question or start and arguement.

          Re: Where is everyone?

LadyT -- I'm type2 -- was diagnosed in July of last year. I didn't really do anything at first to help myself I decided to let the medicine do what it could and I would eat "better" but not go overboard or diet (god forbid!). In December of last year I was tired of being tired, of my clothes not fitting, of having high blood glucose reading everytime I tested so I started researching and decided to try something called Atkins...I knew a couple people who were "sort of" doing Atkins and they had lost weight so I found the Atkins site online and somehow through a series of clicking I found this board and felt right at home. I knew within a few minutes of being on this site reading about everyone's success and struggle that something was different -- people were actually helpful here --- they rooted each other on --- even though I was a new member and hadn't started the program when I ask a question someone answered and gave me advise. I had 3 "friends" before I even started the plan so I knew this was going to work.

I don't worry that someone else lost 15 pounds the first week....or that they lost a total of 39 pounds during induction, they aren't me. I know I had a clean induction and felt happy with my loss. Since that point I haven't lost much more BUT I have lost inches and I've lost the nasty person who use to live in this body - and I don't miss her!!! I will meet my goal but it will be at my pace not because someone else is losing 5 pounds a week still on rung 6. My body is different than yours, the medication I take is different, my exercise routine isn't the same so why would I loose weight at the same pace as someone else?

I'm over 50 -- so I guess maybe I'm finally finding something else I didn't know I had -- patience! I use to have a sign that said "Patience my A**, I'm gonna kill something"...now the only thing that bothers me is a neighbor that thinks I'm emptying the sump pump from our basement into his yard...I'm not and couldn't because he said the house next door to us doesn't have a swamped backyard and the complaining neighbor lives next to that house (he's 2 houses down from me) so how the heck am I flooding his backyard??? Oh well whatever!

I think one reason there isn't a lot of traffic here is that there are so many threads going on here, I sometimes forget that I have a journal thread here -- we just have to try to remember to come here .... maybe we can come and post our glucose readings or something .... just a thought.

            Re: Where is everyone?

Thanks for the input Carole. First of all keep up the great work. That's an outstanding result. Plus you're absolutely right about not comparing ourself with each other. I'm just so greatful that I'm loosing anything at all and that at least I lose something every week even if it's a small amount. I think it's a bit easier for me to avoid comparisons since I measure my weight in kg's.

You know I started this thing as a last resort. I was briefly on insulin while trying to get pregnant and it did nothing for me except put on 7kg's in a month. So when I went to the doctor for my most recent Hb1ac and it read 12.5 I knew I had to do something. The doctor also weighed me and said that if I was 126kg's then maybe I should consider lapbanding as a solution. WHAT THE !!!

Well I weighed in this morning and have lost a total of 14kg's (26lb) in 9 weeks. I don't care if others have lost more or faster than me. I'm just so glad that something is finally working and my BGL's are way down. I'm due to have a 24 hr urine test done this week for my kidney function and another Hb1ac in a week or so. I'll post with hopefully some great results.

Great news Therese!!! I'm proud of you. It's amazing that I've heard many people say they started Atkins as a "last resort" -- this is the one that has worked the best and is the tastiest for me! I've been on the I Love NY Diet, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, I've done the grapefruit diet, the boiled egg diet, the cabbage diet, the soup diet....so I guess this was my last resort also....LOL!

How did your last tests go and your Hb1ac? Hope you got great news!
