A while back I posted about some of my diabetes meds causing me to hold on to weight even though I'd been trying hard to loose. The offending medication is called Actos. So, I took it upon myself to go off of it. I spoke with my diabetic educator who is also a registered pharmasist (sp?). She agreed with me 100%!! I was so pleased. So, the last time I saw her she did a little research and found that Actos did, indeed, have fluid retention, and fat gain as two of the many side effects. I've been off of this evil medicine for almost a week now and I can tell a difference. Almost immediately I lost 3 lbs! I also was able to stop my Lasix and potassium. I normally have very slender ankles for someone my size. When I was taking the Actos I really did need the Lasix to get rid of the fluid. It made my ankles HUGE. So now I have normal ankles! I'm doing great without this medicine. I did contact my doctor by fax to let him know what was going on. The pharmacist also told me to ask my dr about the possibility of increasing my Glucovance. I'm just tickled to be off half of my meds now.
