Re: Newbie with diabetes 2
Hi, Prue! Welcome to ADBB!
There is no limit set on meat, poultry and fish portion sizes. You eat to satisfy your hunger.
However, since you mentioned "meat and fish"... Atkins is not a high protein diet, but high fat. You should also eat a variety of vegetables from the Acceptable Foods List for Induction and count your net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber) to make sure you do not go over 20 while on Induction. So, for example, you can add butter to vegetables, dressings on salads, sauces on meat, etc.
Another good source of fats are avocados. They are limited to 1/2 a small one (Hass avocado) per day during Induction, but they are very nutritious.
Are you reading the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution?
I would suggest you also read Atkins Diabetes Revolution.
Also... good job for exercising!"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: Newbie with diabetes 2
Welcome Prue!!! I am a Type 2 diabetic also and have lost a lot of weight following a low carb lifestyle. In addition, I have reduced my HA1C from 10.2 down to 5.7 by eating low carb. Basically, you eat as much protein and fats as you need to satisfy your hunger. You will see that that you won't eat as much as you think you will. I have lost lots of weight and have helped lower my FBG numbers. You WILL lose weight even if you can't exercise! Good luck and go low carb!
