  • Re: All Guns Blazing - Photo Challenge

Oh, forgot to mention, the only thing I would stress more in AGB2 is to continuously add weight. It's simply not enough to do these workouts with 6lbs or so every week. That 6lbs needs to become 8lbs, 10lbs, 12lbs, 20lbs, 25lbs, etc. or muscles growth is going to plateau. It always must be as challenging as possible. If you could do another set after you finish your workout, your weights weren't heavy enough. The amount of weight added depends hugely on the exercise, so no standard number can be applied unless everyone is doing the same exercises. Maybe gym-goers like me should be doing to the same 5 exercises as everyone else on top of the workouts, and we should additionally post what weight we are using for those, in progression form.

    Exa:
    Username A 2/4: 4, 6 lbs
    Username B 3/4: 6, 6, 8lbs
.. meaning for Username B he has completed 3 out of 4 workouts, lifting 6lbs for the first two workouts and upping to 8lbs for the 3rd workout.

    What do you think?

Personally I don't think I see a difference at the moment. I feel stronger and am able to ge through my sets and reps now without dying, but sofar as my arms looking different. I don't think so, not yet anyway.

I do notice though, oddly enough...when I am doing my hair and putting it up, my arms don't get as tired as quick as they used to...so ya, thats it.

That is progress!!! The longer (time-wise) that you go without truly using those muscles, the longer it will take to get them back. Do you think you might keep up with this after the challenge is over? Would you enterain doing another one?

I also like the inclusion of home weights. I prefer working out at the gym with fewer sets of heavier weights because it really gets me pumped, but a few days so far that I wasn't able to make it to the gym I did the exercises listed in this thread. I also sometimes do the exercises listed here after I get home from the gym if I don't feel like I worked myself as hard as I could have.

I just want to keep our challenge to free weights so that anyone can participate. Not everyone can get to a gym, but as you have said, even if you go to the gym you can still do this work out, too!

Yeah!!!!! Feeling stronger is a GREAT thing. I am one of those weird chicks that thinks all women should learn to throw a solid punch. You would probably never HAVE to, but it does offer a nice boost of self confidence to know you can solidly land a jab or uppercut.

I'm in for Guns Blazing 2! I was already seeing a little difference from the pushup challenge. My husband likes my little muscle!! haha, I'm a girl who NEVER had a muscle in my arms!! I picked up 8lb weights the other day & thought I'd picked up the 5lb by mistake. So i guess I am getting stronger. I mostly use the 5lbs & one set with the 8lbs.

Oh & I read to contract the abs when lifting & OMGosh, I can feel it the next day!!

I agree with encouraging upping the weight...but I think the reporting could get really gross...for example, I sometimes will up the weight for the 1st set, then go back down again, or add weight for the first few reps of the first set...I find this to be especially true at these smaller weights...I just don't have enough small dumbells to be able to increase gradually enough - if I had 4lb, 5lb, 6lb, 7lb, 8lb, ...20lb dumbbells I could go up a pound or two & do the new weight for all of the sets...but I find myself going up 3/4/5lbs at a time (15-25% weight increase) which is just too much.
