  • Red-Faced

Red-faced. Warning: This is a whine….all my life when I exercise hard I get beet-red in the face. I used to play soccer when I was younger and I would always get super red. Well last night I was really kicking it in the gym, felt great, had lots of energy, did the treadmill for an hour, then cooled down for 5 min. then did the stairclimber for 15 min and then cooled down for 6 min.

I looked in the mirror and I was beet-red again! I wasn’t winded and I felt great, but I looked like I was about to collapse!
This is so embarrassing, does anyone else experience this when you work out?
I should also note that I am always hot at the gym. It’s never “cool” in there, its moderate and then when you start working out it feels warm.

    :letitout :mad2 (That's what I think I look like)

Ask your doctor about it, but I seem to recall that some folks, particularly those folks with a skin problem called rosacea flush easily. Also when you exercise, you release certain hormones that can cause your blood vessels to dilate so you'll get more blood flow to that area and the skin will appear flushed.

But ask your doctor about to make sure

Well I do not have rosacea so that's probably not the cause. I will ask my doctor about it though next time I'm in. When I'm beet-red, I don't feel terrible, but I look like I've just run a marathon or something.

Spirit, I'm glad I'm not the only one

You're definitely not alone. I too get red-faced and stay that way for an hour or more after a good long run. I consider it proof that I've worked hard!!

          See it as a plus!!

Me, too! I get really red faced and sweaty. I've been that way all my life and I haven't keeled over yet.

I really don't like it when people comment on it either. But sometimes it does work in my favor. Like at work, people think I'm really working too hard and my boss would tell me to slow down or take a break.

Yup, that's it alright! But you look like you're running some kind of race? You should be flushed :geek

Anyway, at least I'm not the only red-faced "loser".

Here's to good hard workouts and red-faces CHEERS

I get that way too. I have been this way all my life. My mom also gets this way when she gets over-heated and I've noticed that my daughter gets this way. Someone once told me that it was blood vessels close to the surface, but I'm not sure what the reason is.

It does get embarrasing from time to time though. Especially when I was in middle school/high school/college. I was always very active, so I felt like my face was always red. I just figured it was hereditary.
