  • 5 k Poll time!

Just wondering the split of fastest 5k times.

It can be either outside or treadmill times. It might help if you specify in a post if it was on the treadmill, road, cross country or a multi terrain......

Well the slowest was my first one back in January 2004 .. 45 minutes + and it was on asphalt ..

My most recent 5k (August 2005) was my fastest so far .. 33:38 .. and it was uphill .. and 90 degrees and 90% humidity. So yeah, this old lady *is* getting faster and stronger!!

Now, I'm training for the Disney Half Marathon (4 months from yesterday!!) and I'll be 50 years old 3 months and 1 week from today!

IF I CAN DO IT, ANYBODY CAN DO IT!

Every body has to start somewhere, and I bet there a lot of people who dont even try! So congratulations.

          Keep it up.

            31:50 officially

It was on a hilly 5K course.

There's a race coming up that promises a fancy tech shirt to anyone who finishes under 20:00

um...well...my fastest 1 mile split ever was 9:20 so I don't think I'm in the running for that one.

                Re: 5 k Poll time!

Well, I ran my first 5K race on 8/27 at the 5k for Clay--the race was also being used as a time trial for Round Rock Fit, the marathon training program I just joined up with a few weeks ago. My time was 29:03--9:19/mi. I was SHOCKED--the fastest in training I had ever run was about 10:20-10:30/mi. Back when I started with couch to 5K in late Feb./early Mar., I was running 11:00-12:00/mi. We had our 4 mi training run yesterday, and I was comfortably keeping just under a 10:00/mi pace...I will definitely be slowing it down a little as our mileage increases, but still within our pace group--9:00-10:30 min/mi...The wonders of running... Oh--I only run outside...

I think its always easier to get a better time when you are actually running against other people, instead of just on your own, as you have that competitive edge to it also.

I TOTALLY agree! I was running with my friend that week who also joined the training program, and I paced myself with her--she has a bit longer legs, too...It was good, though, because I don't feel I was pushing myself enough in my training runs--I'd gotten a little "lazy, " if you will...Now i run with her and the rest of my group on Saturdays, and I definitely run faster--of course yesterday, it was all about, slow down, don't go too fast--I helped HER in that respect!

Also, it helps to train on hilly terrain. Unfortunately, here in SW FL, we don't have many hills so I find I have to push myself harder during training runs to compensate for the flat terrain. But if you can train on hills, your speed on a flat course will definitely improve.

My fastest was 26:something back when I was like 15, but I'm not counting that.

My fastest in my adult life was 27:41, an 8:53 pace, in 2002. Right now, I'd kill to run an 11:30 pace.
