  • 10 mile race this time!

In about 11 hours time I am entering for another race. This time its 10 miles, mainly through woodland area. Should be fun. I will of course be on line soon with new from it.

With a little over a month until my first half marathon, its come at an ideal time.

Yes 2big, I will have it strapped just in case. It would probably be ok as its not going to be much road running but I will have it strapped just to be on the safe side.

It was ok thanks Kent. It was billed as a 10 miler, but it ended up being a 9.1 mile run. It was an absolute killer the first mile was up hill and it was a VERY steep hill. The rest of the race was 2 laps of a wood, up and down hill. Quite treachorous underfoot in places.

But it was fun none the less. I finished it in 1:43:20 which wasnt brilliant, but the terrain wasnt good so I am not that unhappy. The winner only managed 56 minutes, which is also slow. So it puts my time into perspective really.

I am not sure where I finished in the field, definitely almost last, (but not last as I know for a fact that I beat at least 1 person).

Next one is in 2 weeks time, just 5 miles this time, so a lot easier......

Re: 10 mile race this time!

Just received an email from a friend of mine who was also running the route. He has a garmin forerunner 205 hrm thing, and he reports the following, so as you can see it was quite a tough course -

The stat's were: distance 9.26 miles, ascent 2733 feet, descent 2758 feet, not sure why we came down further than we went up but hey ho. That's quite a lot of hill climbing in anyone's book.

Great job, Rich!!! Did you notice your HR going up as the terrain got tougher? I think Polar HRMs are the best when it comes to subtle changes in terrain, temp, wind, etc.

My heart rate was at 194 before I even got to the top of the first major hill. But it was interesting keeping an eye on it thats for sure.

Rich can't beleive they ran you up a killer hill at the start but atleast it wasn't at the end like the Boston Marathon.

Nice job, Rich. I can only imagine the change in altitude being a bother going up the hill...but 9 miles of the terrrain has got to be tough. Congrats on the awesome time.

                          .

Both knees felt a bit sore yesterday, but that was just because of the race. They are better now thanks.

Thanks Lisa. To be honest, I didnt really notice the change in altitude, the strain it was putting on my calf muscles was my biggest concern.
