  • An exercise virgin enters the forum...

This is the first time that I've popped in here, so here goes.

I'm just about to read through the stickies and threads, cos exercise is where I let myself down, so what I'm asking for is...

Just everyones fave starting off tip, or word of wisdom or advice.

Just a quickie if you have the time, much appreciated.

I do free weights, running and pilates.

I had never run before in my life, now i run 3 miles 3/4 days a week. They have a great startup running program at www.coolrunning.com If i can do it anyone can... It's not my favourite exercise, but it's the one that has made the most difference I think..and it's free!

I do the Walking Away The Pounds tape. I have the 2 mile one - but take it 1/2 mile at a time. Thats a good one for a virgin

Find an exercise(s) that you like to do. That's the key, imo. If you enjoy it, you won't consider it "work" and will be more apt to do it, rather than put it off for "later".

My favourite piece of advice -

Just do what you can each time, and you will quickly realise that you are able to do more.

Oh and don't push yourself too much too soon.

(I realise you wanted just one starting off tip, but hey, I gave you two for the price of one)

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Re: An exercise virgin enters the forum...

I started off doing like 3 minutes on my elliptical machine. Then just increased by a minute here, two minutes there. Then about a month into that, I started lifting weights. I recently started doing some running, using the techniques on the coolrunning.com site. I can't believe that *I* run...:O Holy MOLY! I won't say that I like exercise...I wish I could be one of those people who looks forward to it. I would say that I do sort of get a high off it when I do it....but I have to force myself to do it...and sometimes I'm not successful. However, I KNOW that if I were more consistent, I'd have better results. Basically, find something that you enjoy...if you are competetive.....find something that you can do to challenge yourself to do more, go further, etc.
