Re: Bodybuilding 101 January 2007
Sarah, I'll take whatever snippets of wisdom and motivation you can provide! 4-5 days of workout will be good workout for you.
Tracie, I started out with small hand weights. Danskin makes a set that are really cute in bright colors that you can change out the weight plates, but they go from 1 lb to 4 lb plates for women. They also make a dumbell. That's what I started out with, and I got them at Walmart. You can also start with canned vegetables and work your way up to 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water or sand. Then pick exercises from www.shapefit.com (that's the site I like), oh and www.bodyforlife.com
Tonight I did an upper body workout as follows:
3x12x12.5 lbs Dumbell curls (for the biceps)
3x12x12.5 lbs Tricep Extensions (for the triceps)
3x12x10 lbs Lying Dumbell Flyes (for the chest)
3x12x10 lbs Front Raises (for the shoulders)
3x12x20 lbs bent over rows (for the upper back)
crunches to exhaustion--I did a bunch and lost count
Then I did 2 miles for the KickAss Triathlon on my elliptical machine. Man oh man, my legs are sooooooooo sore from those walking lunges the other night. Lordy lordy. It took me 45 stinkin minutes on the ellip to do 2 measly miles and my quads and glutes were burning the whole time.
