  • Where do you carry your keys, cell phone???

Where do you carry your keys, cell phone, mp3 player, bottle water, and anything else you "need" to take with you while you're out running/walking?

I would add biking, but if you have a pack on your bike that's pretty easy to store.

I'm asking because this morning I had an epiphany of going for a 3 mile walk/run and needed to carry my cell phone and house key with me; yes, my DD's are back in school today (silent cheer).

I don't trust my pockets or carry a fanny pack. I guess it's safe to say I only trust an undisclosed piece of clothing that has been around for centuries that is both reliable and sturdy. So far I have not lost my house key or my cell phone while walk/running the 3 miles...LOL.

And where do you carry your keys, cell phone, etc???

They make pouches/armbands for carrying your cell, mp3 and keys.

Well, when I would go running outside, I would either take just my housekey or my car keys (not ALL of my keys, just the ring I really needed), depending on if I left from my apt. or if I drove somewhere else to go running. I put the key in my sportsbra! Sure it gets a little sweaty, but I always know it's there, and it doesn't jingle annoyingly!

Um, as for a cell phone...who knows?

Re: Where do you carry your keys, cell phone???

I bought a neoprene armband at Target when I was in the states last year, cost me about $8, it has a little zippered pocket for keys and change, and it's also for carrying a mp3player/cell phone. i can carry both since my mp3 is tiny. I also carry 'poop bags' for my dog in it . It's also reflective for nightime running. I found it in the electronics section with all the mp3 player/ipod cases

I've also used a fannypack in the past, when I'm taking the dog to the beacha nd need somewhere to carry his tennis ball. It also fits a small water bottle.

I've got running shorts that have a small pocket built in for keys and change as well.

Juli, I've done the bra thing too! works great LOL.

For carrying water, I have a water bottle holder that also has a pocket for keys etc, I got it at a running store called 'the Running Room' but it cost me about $30 and i've rarely used it. i usually either carry my water in my hand, or none at all and i drink it when i get back..depending on how hot it is. I'm not a long distance runner though. 5k tops for me.

I use a fanny pack. And I put the pack part on my stomach, not on my hips or back.

If I don't use it, I clip my cellphone onto my waistband or stuff it into my jacket pocket. For my keys, I either attach it to my safety whistle or I use a safety pin and pin it inside my pants pocket.

I don't use an MP3 Player or any other type of electronics while I walk due to safety issues---you won't be able to hear anyone gaining on you if you're plugged in.

            Good question,

Not the safest option but I hide my doorkeys in the garden and hold my phone (which is majorly annoying, I should try a bumbag as we say in the UK - 'fanny pack' totally cracks us up - different meanings )

When I'm in the gym I put my (tiny) mp3 down my sports bra - I feel sorry for the guys not being able to stash stuff down there. But like Not2Late I wouldn't wear one on the streets - safety first.

Re: Where do you carry your keys, cell phone???

              Great responses!!

Joy....thanks! I think I remember seeing one of these at our Kmart. I bought DD a mp3 carrier for $10 that resembles that one and has more room then the little arm band thingy that mine came with. Duh...why didn't I think of using that one before??? lol.

Juli....that's exactly what I did with my house key and my cell phone. lol. I was thinking that wouldn't be the most safest place if I started boucing around a bit more. But, who knows. Maybe the next most safest place!

Sadie...you sure got a lot of "stuff" in that one arm band! lol. Nice. If the one I bought for my DD doesn't work I'll have to make some calls to the discount stores. I normally don't carry a bottle water with me during the colder seasons since I mostly just get about an hour from home and can stop just about anywhere for a drink of water; I pass by DH's work, my mom's, my dad's, friends, and the school on my 3 mile trek. Yep, we live in a small town. lol.

Not2late...a safety whistle is one thing I really never thought about. We live in the land of cow tipping where most of things that happen around here happen out in the country. Most of the time. But one could always use a whistle to blow if a cow approached. I should see how much one costs. Thanks!

Baarb...I was thinking the same thing about guys not having extra "storage" space. lol. My DH just rolls his eyes at me. I wear one earbud while I walk/run outside so I can hear along the road. I'm pretty much a quick reactor based on a nice little incident at 4 in the morning about a year ago when a car came at me and ended up hitting the curb and popping a tire. Yep. I learned a lot of lessons on that day.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I like to hear how everyone finds accomodations for things they need to take along with them. My DH laughs because I carry a purse and all he has is his keys, wallet, leatherman's tool, tape measure, and knife. Yep, I'll take a purse over stuffing things in my pockets any day. Besides, aren't pockets meant for "decoration" anyways?

              Happy running/walking!

Re: Where do you carry your keys, cell phone???

Depending on weather, location being traversed, and method of travel, I use different methods. If cold, I tend to choose my reversible jacket (with an optional zip-on 2nd layer which can also be worn separately) with multiple zippered and velcro pockets inside and out, which I use for everything, including spare bags for trash or whatever I collect along the way. (I often forage during walks). In warmer weather, if I'm going to be out a long while and/or want to keep myself unburdened with carry-alongs, I use the fanny-pak, usually with pouch on my belly, an insulated drink bag that clips onto a beltloop or the fanny-pak and/or tuck things into under garments. Carabeaner clips are very handy to attach things to straps/belts/loops.

Often I'll use a simple draw-string sack (long string) which can be worn either on the shoulder or like a back-pack for drinks and snacks. Sometimes I'll just carry a small soft-side cooler (box-shape) with everything in it. The main thing is to plan ahead. I once lost my car keys in the woods that was tucked in my chest, due to bending over to pick mushrooms. No more of that! At the least, my keys now have a C. clip on the keyring so I can snap them onto whatever!

I'd say you're set for the best of the best there, Boonie! Wow! Thanks for the extra tips on what to carry. I've seen those draw-string sacks at R.E.I sporting goods store but didn't want to fork out the money for one. I think maybe I could make one for 1/2 the price....well, maybe. lol.

Re: Where do you carry your keys, cell phone???

I've done the key in the bra thing too - but I have sensitive skin and it caused an irritiation (sorry TMI!)

With just the key I'll loop it through the lace on my sneakers. I don't even feel it that way. The water thing is a bit of a conundrum though - I get the little half size bottles sometimes and just carry the water in my pocket. Just enough for a sip here and there when I'm throughly parched.

P.S. My dd just went back to school on Tuesday too - YAY!!! (for her sake of course...she loves school...um, o.k. and for mama's sake too )

I've done the loopdy loop around my shoe before and managed to lose the key. lol. Go figure. I've even hid the key around the front door, back door, side door, garage, and after a few kids messing around the neighborhood I decided to just carry one with me. My girls aren't latch-a-key kids, yet, so it's safe to say no body needs to get except me.

Anyways...I was thinking how you would carry a waterbottle in your pocket, then it dawned on me that you probably have big pockets on your pants or wear a jacket...lol...Smart idea. I buy those little tiny bottle waters for my DD's when they want to take a lunch instead of buying, too.

Yep, my girls love school, too...but not as much as me lol.

Cycling clothes have pockets in odd places.

None in the lycra shorts, of course, but the cycling top has pockets in the back - often secured with a zip.

Mountain bikers tend to wear baggy shorts with pockets all over the place. Road bikers avoid those baggies for two reasons - wind resistance, and scooping bees up into your . . .
