  • Dance Dance Revolution: How to Play the Game.

Hi guys my name is Sha and I'm new to ADBB. I've been an atkineer for well over a month now and wish to spread some of my experience to other users.

Dance Dance Revolution is a great game developed by benami and produced by Konami. You basically use you feet to play the game. There is another thread about this game asking users if they've played it, but I'm going to put a tutorial on how to get the game. The game was originally for Playstation/2 and then it branched out to other systems. Its a very fun game to get involved in, and you get a great workout without knowing it. I've been playing Dance Dance Revolution for well over 3 years now, and I didn't start to lose weight. I pay all the time, but I don't take it as a workout. It is just very fun, and after you’re done with your session, your shirt is dripping with sweat (ewww).

I'll give you an example of the game first. There are four arrows: UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT on the top of the screen that are greyed. As a song plays during the level arrows will come from the bottom to the top. you must hit the coresponding arrow when the arrows come from the bottom and once they reach the grey arrow on the top you hit the arrows. Oh man this is hard to explain.... so... I'll put a video link for you to see visually.

*don't be discouraged, the game isn't THAT hard the kid in the video is just really really good, he surpasses most players*

Ok well when you start off like I did, you may think that you look very retarded, or you just weigh too much but don't think that. If you really want to play the game, then you will grow into it in a short time. The beginer mode is basically for new players with simple steps. If you decide to buy DDR for PS2 or 360 then you must get a dance pad for the coresponding system. I will get into pads in a few. There is also another game which much, much more fun than ddr, and it is called in the groove. Although the PS2 version takes very long to load levels.

If you don't have a PS2, xbox or 360, then you have another choice. StepMania is a "FREE!!!" version, that is almost exactly like DDR although its built open source. The songs have to be individually downloaded, so it’s much more personalized. You can get StepMania from http://www.stepmania.com/. It’s not a huge file to download, and it works on most systems. Although the best dancing game is In The Groove for PC/Mac with its upgrade. The game can be bought, but it’s difficult to find (check online or PM me). It's basically identical to the arcade most of us play in.

Well onto the dance pads; they are required to play this game. You can use your fingers with a controller or keyboard, but your not gonna have a great workout. You could buy a $20 thin pad from a game store, but it is not worth it. I started off with those pads but they are horrible, and you may rip it or slip on it. The best pads are metal although they are way too expensive for beginners. So foam pads are your answer. I have two foam pads; one is the RedOctane Ignition 2.0 for Ps2/Xbox and the other is RedOctane Ignition 3.0 PS2/PC/Xbox. Last I checked my local game stop had the pad for $59.99. If you want to play on PC or PS2 I suggest Ignition 3.0, since 2.0 should be obsolete by now. http://www.redoctane.com/ignitionpadv3.html

To play the game for close to free then you can do this. Get a USB dance pad like Ignition 3.0, and get StepMania. You can play on your computer screen, or if your like me then hook your computer to your LCD TV. If you want to do things the easier way then get either a PS2/Xbox/360/Wii and a Dance Pad for that particular system. Play the tutorial mode to learn the game.

If you have any questions, then feel free to PM me. Also please reply if I should add more details, I will edit them.

*I also apologize for any error, I will try to edit any mistakes. Sorry for the messy look, I'm just rushing since I have classes tomorrow.*
