  • What do you think about Curves?

I want somewhere I can go to when the weather is bad. I live in a small town and the only place near me is Curves. I did something like it before and it was ok. But Curves is a little different. The good thing is it is only 2 miles from my home so I can hit it on the way home from work and it is close by when I am at home. Heck I could even walk there and back on the nice days to get an even better workout!

I have seen people do quite well with Curves. I think it is best for folks who are not hardcore Aerobics/Pilates/Kickboxing/Weightlifting fanatics. 3 or 4 people who I have known personally have started there when they were new exercisers and made real progress, getting in much better shape and losing weight.

If you were a former marathon runner/bodybuilder/etc... athlete, you might find it less challenging than you would prefer.

The only reason I have not signed up with curves is because you have to workout by appt. At least oyu do over here where I live. You only get to work out for 30 minutes from what I was told and they have an enrollment fee. Personally I think its inappropriate to charge an enrollment fee as There is NOT THAT MUCH paperwork involved. Other than that I have heard it works pretty well. I just have enough to schedule my life around and I can't do it around exercising too.

I would check with your local curves before signing up to make sure you can go in and workout whenever you like and specify "Do I need to make an appt to work out" and "Can I work out for more than 30 minutes at a time"

The reason you only workout for 30 minutes, Mirya, is because Curves is CIRCUIT TRAINING. The whole workout takes 30 minutes to complete.

Circuit training is an excellent workout, combining resistance and cardio.

My boyfriend's mom goes to Curves, and she can go at anytime. The nice thing is that you can start at any station you want (if it's busy) and it won't affect your workout. When she travels, she's allowed to use other Curves facilities as a guest. Her only complaint is that the Curves near her has somewhat limited hours.

It's also an all-women environment, which many ladies prefer.

I used to be a curves manager and I have seen many women do very well with it. THe only thing is, is that it works if you work it. You must really work those machines and not just half-A$$ it. Many woman don't work the machines as hard as they should and therefore don't see the results the could. It a very comfortable enviroment being it is only woman. I have never heard of having to make an appointment to workout! I know they like to set one to initally sign you up but after that you should be able to come in whenever you want, so I would double check that info out. Hope this helps!

I must have misunderstood them then. It sounds like a good idea if it just an initial appt. to get started. I am goingto look into it further. Thanks for the info.
