  • Looking for C25K buddy?

I just finished my first session yesterday. I'm so excited but it takes me a long time to be able to run because of weak ankles and asthma. I'll probably end up taking 10 or 11 weeks instead of 9 *sighs* So I would love a buddy and wonder if anyone else is starting the Couch to 5K program.

    C25K D1 W1
My first run went okay but it took an extra 60 secs added to my walking intervals for my breathing to return to normal. I know my asthma shapes up before my body so I should be able to do the 90 second intervals by my third run. That said, I just downloaded interval music and fast paces music really helps my breathing patterns so maybe I'll be able to keep up on my next run.

Great - another newbie ADBB runner. I started a few weeks ago. I am on week 3 now. And just like you I am going to take my time. I found week one the hardest so far. I was so out of shape.

    C25K D2 W3
It went well easier than last time but I find it hard to time the intervals and more and less gave up on it. But I made sure I did have 2 3 minute runs in there.

Yeah! Liv, did you see the post on the interval podcast? I just downloaded them and they they look great. I figure it should be better than staring at my blackberry's chronograph. http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html

Today was my first run using the podrunner instead of my timer. I was able to keep up this time but I am not chalking that up to better health but rather, better concentration. I had no idea how much concentration went into timing my run the other day. With that out of the way my breath was much better and I was able to keep up through all the intervals. Second thing, I was faster and ran out of road having to go off my route a couple blocks to finish the full 29:19

BTW: does anyone know if mace works on mountain lions?

Mountain lions???? Eeeek. Did you see one?
The best I can run into of wildlife may be a gopher.

Great that your run went better. I am sure you are right about the timing. I think it kind of is a hider for me too. I would not like to run with an ipod - not my thing. But I can sure see how it would help. I will just try to wing it. I hope I don't completely ruin it. Hopefully a bit of improvision will still make it work. I am supposed to to 90 seconds and 3 minute runs again tomorrow.

            Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

I didn't see one but at 4am I got a little nervous. They do come down the hill occasionally since they keep building closer and closer and just not leaving them any room! It's trippy to read about a mountain lion in a state park smack in the middle of a city. I know we have them on the other side of the freeway so I just got a little nervous. It was DARK! We get deer running down the street sometimes too. It's the benefit of living in a city that buts right up against farms, hills and marsh land. The deer are super brave too. A huge buck watched us swim through the fence at our pool last year! I had never seen a real rack... live.

I can run with or without the music but it would be great to have a silent track that maybe beeped at the intervals so you know when the slow and stop. *runs off to google* How were your first 2 weeks of the program?

              Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

I just started this about a week ago... I'm hesitant to move on to W2 until I feel completely comfortable with W1. I've run it about four times and completed them all, but it bothers me mentally if I can't finish my workouts. I might just do W1 for another week...

                Hi Starlet,
Welcome to the C25K thread. I cannot see why you can't take your time. It is better to start slow than to overdo it. Are you running with the timing music?

My first two weeks went fine. Except the very first couple of tries which I found hard. Now that I run for longer stretches I do feel a bit more strain on my legs.

                C25k D3 W3
I went OK. Weather was warmer this morning so I was hotter by the end of it. My legs feel a bit sore but I made sure to stretch. Next will be the 5 min - 3 min intervals. Probably do that on Saturday morning.

I'll probably have to do some of the later weeks a couple times because I need time to strengthen my ankles and lungs. You can repeat weeks as many times as you feel are necessary.

BTW: are either of you using the 8 week C25K type program or the 9 week program at coolrunning?

I started with the program over at coolrunning and while I like it, I would like more cardio. Yesterday I noticed that I felt really peaceful after the run just like when I used to run. God, I missed that. I have been walking and doing Pilates on my off days but was looking to see if it was okay to run 4 days a week for C25K. It looks like a much better fit for me but wondered if either of you were doing something similar.

I sat down and looked at the differenced between the two programs and decided to go with the runnersworld program. It just seems like it will be easier to move to a 12k program after. So you'll see me post 4 days a week instead of 3.

The jog today went well. My lungs are adjusting. My legs are still weak so I'm doing some exercises pre and post run. I need to strengthen my legs so I don't get shin splints. My legs felt like lead at first but no aches until about half done. I look forward to next weeks podcast though

                        Congratulations on finishing week one.

I had not run across (pun intended) that 8 week model before. Interesting. I think personally I need that no-run day betweek each work out. So I am going to continue with the coolrunning 9 week programme. On the off day I do a bit of walking, cruch and weights. (I really like weights)

Yeah, I think the 9 week program looks better for injury prevention but I know me. Life is so bad right now that I feel this need to run in a way that could get me in trouble

I don't know why I stopped running before because I love it so much

                            I had to run 3min - walk - 5 min - walk - 3 min - walk - 5 min
It was hard. About as hard as week one. I did not think I would make the first 5 and was apprehensive about starting the second one. Really thought I had come to an impasse. But actually that last 5 min went OK once I got into it. I am starting to think there is something to this interval thing.

Easier to time now that the intervals are longer.

Todays run was great. Still using me inhalor but no longer feeling like I will die at the end of those 60 seconds. I got tired of the same podcast so I listened to one by Steve rubber and used the clock. Kept starting my walking late but it felt great!
