  • Question for the Runners -- And possibly Biogeek :-)

I've noticed the past couple of weeks i have a strong ammonia smell in my nose after I run. I've done some research on the net, and it appears that this is common in runners, it's your body burning protein.

What I don't understand is why I'm having this...doesn't your body burn: carbs, then fat than protein? I'm not a long distance runner, this is happening after only 3 mile runs. I'm eating 100+ carbs a day (70+net), 45-50% fat and 30% protein. Could my body really be burning all the carbs and and fat in only a 3 mile run? I eat around 15-1700 cals a day as well..so I'm not undereating.

I don't know much about the whole biology of how our body burns what and why...I jsut want to make sure i'm not burning muscle.

Has anyone else had this issue? It doesn't happen to me every run but has happened often enough for me to notice.
