  • Maximum amount of exercise

    Hello

Just wondering whether someone can tell me what is the maximum amount of cardio someone should be doing while on induction. Also, I've been reading a few posts and am a little confused about the importance on calories. I know Atkins is not a calorie counted diet but at the same time, I've read in some posts that calories are something we need to watch/ count.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks very much

    Re: Maximum amount of exercise

To much cardio could lead to to much muscle loss. For best results a combination of both resitance (weight lifting) and cardio are both needed. That goes for women and men! I would recommend cardio sessions be limited to about 45 minutes every other day and on opposite days do your weight lifting if possible.

    Calories do count!

Like most diet plans Atkins tries to make things as simple as possible for the dieters. For the most part, limiting your carb intake automatically limits your overall food consumption which causes you to lose weight.

However overall total calories still rule. If you eat more the your limit needed for maintaince you will gain weight if you eat less then your basil limit you will enter starvation mode and start losing muscle along with fat.

Knowing your weight & body fat percentage is a good place to start. There are plenty of different calculators available on the web to show you your min and max amount of calories, for a healthy diet aim for a calorie count above your min but below your maintance level.

    Total Lost 70 lbs
    Body fat: 30+% to 6.5%

      Re: Maximum amount of exercise

I actually used to workout daily with cardio and weights - so it would end up being anywhere from 30-180min of cardio, and then about 30-45 min of weights, alternating body parts. Then again, I like the routine of doing something daily, so it works well for me to do it like that.

I currently am being a slacker and doing 30+ cardio per day as a minimum.

7074 - I personally hate cardio so it takes a bit more push for me to get into it. I do cardio three times a week and I strength train 3-4 days a week. There are times when I do both on one day (i.e. running and lifting) but it just depends on my workout of the day. I take Saturday and Sunday off. I may pick up a Saturday here and there, but Sunday I'm off...period.

I wanted to mention, if you've just started induction you may feel weak and have a headache. If you feel rotten...wait to exercise until you feel better by the end of week one.
