I have a question for you morning runners.
Do you eat anything before you head out?
I've been having just a nibble of cheese. Basically I wake up, put on my running clothes, have a drink of water, a bite of cheese, and then I'm out the door.
Is there a better way of me doing this?

      Morning,

For my early morning run, which is usually at 5:30am, I don't eat before running and have found that it's best for me if I don't drink either, even a sip. If I do then I find that I need to RUN back home very quickly for that morning constitution, kwim.

In the fall I often ran in the evening, right after dinner without any issues.

I used to run in the EARLY AM .. 4:30 .. I'd do 4.2 miles 3 times a week without eating first .. seemed to work out okay for me, but then I'm seldom hungry FIRST THING .. it takes my appetite awhile to kick in.

Everyone is different though .. if you feel like you're not running strong without a little food, I'd suggest something light before heading out .. maybe a couple of tablespoons of sf peanut butter? That is a great source of protein! Just don't eat too much or you can experience those painful SIDE STITCHES .. if you eat alot, allow an hour at least for your food to digest before hitting the road!

        HAPPY RUNNING!

3 miles for me today, and I ran the whole of the first mile It was a really nice run - sunny, daffodils everywhere and newborn lambs all over the place. Had to stop to rescue a couple of strays that had escaped onto the road...

Re eating before a run - I always head out without anything except a cuppa. My blood sugars are so sensitive that just about anything to eat can de-stabilise me a little and I've found that if I eat anything and then exercise I can end up shaky. If I just head straight out my blood sugars stay stable so long as I stay aerobic the whole time. For me, an ideal life is permanenly aerobic and permanently in ketosis.

Ok guys, I'm off tomorrow for a few weeks with the last van-load of furniture (even my bathroom scales are packed now...). I'll try to fit in some runs while I'm away. There's mile upon mile of forest to explore, with loads and loads of tracks and not one map, so I'll have my work cut out exploring them all. I might even dig out the bike to help. I'll tell you how I got on when I get back, and then in a few more weeks we're off for good. I just hope we get internet access sorted out!

          Keep running!

55 this morning and absolutely GORGEOUS! So I got out there and ended up with 3.5 miles. Not my intention to increase mileage today, but it was so nice out, and I was happy, so I kept going. I had to come home and get in the car to clock my route. I wasn't going in any specific route, so I had no idea how far I'd gone until I checked it out in the car. And, if I do say so myself...I'm quite pleased :yes
