  • Chronic Pain and Atkins

Just interested if others have experienced difference in their pain levels since starting Atkins and an exercise program.

I know for me it has been amazing in the differences. I started out pretty much sedentary with chronic back and abdominal pain. I could walk as exercise, just not far and not fast. I got into weight training to build everything back up after my last surgery (all my abdo muscles were cut) and a year later I can lift heavy, go flat out on a treadmill for 30 minutes, walk for hours on end and also don't have to spend all day lying down resting

Chronic pain is so dehibilating on your mood as well as your body, I also found I was always so much more exhausted than a normal person. If I had to 'go out' at night, it took a few days to recover, driving anywhere over half an hour in distance also took a few days to recover. Now I'm able to do those things too a lot easier.

    What are your experiences?

I have chronic pain with the fibromyalgia. Atkins has helped with the pain some, but I am still trying to work on the exercising part, as I have to take it very very slow and ramp up to it, else the fibro flares and I need to rest up to recover.

So exercise and exhertion is pretty painful and exhausting, as can doing alot of walking, stress, "going out" etc. Which means I'm mostly a homebody now.

      Bizzle,
I went through that stage last year - 'going out' required a weeks recovery, so I understand how frustrating it can be. Are you under a physio or a pain clinic? They were invaluable with giving me strengthening exercises and helping me on the path to health.

I have chronic and what could be dibilitating pain if I let it!!!....The **** with that ...
I love this saying and have no idea who said it first I wish it had been me!!!
"pain is inevitable suffering is an option" I REFUSE to suffer .(any more than I have to!!!)......exercise gives you the natural uppers you need to keep yourself motivated and push back the demon depression that tries to keep you down....not to mention the less you weigh the less stress on your body and joints that in turn decreases pain.....
this is all win win as far as I can see it!!!....

Loon btw you could not be more beautiful congratulations the joy on your face speaks volumns for what you have accomplished!!! :hug

Thanks nurselady And yeah - exercise can be a lifesaver for ppl with pain. Even if its just tiny movements at the start - it all works towards the end result.
