I have been quit for close to four years, but I remain an addict for life.
I think I know what you mean. I gave up smoking just over 2 years ago now, but still find myself looking longingly at people smoking occasionally. I'll never go back to it for the fear of being hooked again. But I suppose once a smoker always a smoker?

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!
I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Unfortunately, that is very true. We are a puff away from a pack a day. Sometimes I think I'm past any wanting of a cigarette, then out of the blue it hits me that I want one. Usually it is more of a memory of something I enjoyed and I associate smoking with it, but it is still real. I find it is easy to get past those moments now, but year one I think I was very vulnerable.

I quit smoking cold turkey and remained smoke free for 6 years. Last year that "I'll just have one" thought kicked in - now I'm back up to two packs a day...ughhh
Congrats to all of you for beating the habit - I hope to join you.
I don't look at it that way. I look at it as I'm a nonsmoker. I used to be a smoker. I chose every day NOT to smoke, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to lug around that smoking label forever. If I make goal weight am I still obese, just because I once was? Anyone can be a smoker, it just takes lighting that cigarette. Putting it out forever makes me a nonsmoker. Easy as that
I quit a little over a year ago after smoking 22 years. Thanks to a certain book, quitting smoking was easier than quitting caffeine. If anyone is struggling with their quit, or is thinking about qutting please read Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Stop Smoking." For me it was a lifesaver.
Whew! I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I haven't smoked in three years and I still crave it - it's been really bad lately, too. I walked into work yesterday behind someone smoking and wanted to fight him for his cigarette!
