Know that the first three days are a true test of your resolve as you undergo nicotine withdrawal. You will become obsessed with cigarettes and smoking as the Dragon roars with all its fury as you detoxify and you will be forced to choose time and time again what will be your fate. Choose wisely ... and remember that it is not the fact that you have quit that is causing this pain, rather it is the fact that you have smoked.
Propaganda? Rhetoric? I think not. Rather it is the ugly face of addiction. As you struggle thru this time as so many have, take the time to read the true purpose of a cigarette. It is not the end product. It is little more than an advanced delivery system for the tool of addiction … nicotine. And the Ferenge who produce the cigarettes are perfectly willing to poison you to further insure their profits.
The next 14 days will deprive you of sleep while impairing your memories with oxygen saturation ... thus impairing your judgment as well when the Dragon calls.
The body, now free of Nicotine, begins the process of healing and subsequently gives you all the symptoms of the flu. You cough up soot as your lungs clear and your nose constantly runs as your sinuses clear themselves. You are now very tired as the compound that has stimulated you and over stimulated your heart and lungs is no longer present. And perhaps your vision, hearing, and taste are skewed in some ways you cannot describe. Nothing is the same … nothing is normal. Or is it? Would you remember what normal is without a smoke? How long has it been?
Certainly, the gas you emit isn’t normal as your digestive tract misfires like an out of tune Ford. And once your ‘flu’ is over, your appetite has decided to resample the world, only aggravating the previous condition. The timing chain is gone, and you react and overreact to everything and no one seems to understand! Why don’t they understand? And all you want to do is hide, and perhaps cry …
Cry if you can. Weep for those hundreds of thousands who will die this year of smoking related causes. Weep for those friends who discovered they were too late to receive the full benefit of their quit. And weep for joy for those fortunate enough to escape … and pray. Pray that you are one of them.
Welcome to the Razor’s Edge. Eighteen days of pure ****. And the doors are always open … waiting. All you must do to revisit is take that first puff.
