  • "Why can't a woman be more like a man?"

Yes, there is a song on that theme. Dates us all who know it.

But I am thinking of ideal weight tables.

I have just submitted a new FAQ on the subject

    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=19784

The tables allow a woman's ideal weight to increase with age.
A man is allowed no such concession.

    The maths is here:

    Men Ideal BMI = 0.5 * kg/m^2 + 11.5

    Women
    Ideal BMI = 0.4 * kg/m^2 + 0.03*Age + 11

Betty thinks this is a load of rot, and women should be denied the extra padding.

    What do folk think?
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

But men are initially allowed to weigh more than women right? I mean a man of say 5'4" is expected to weigh more than a 5'4" woman--so we're just making up for the discrepancy later in life! Plus, men don't give birth so they have no excuse!

        Yes she does think that!!

I think the rules were changed to accommodate the FACT that most women let themselves go after marriage and childbirth. Me among them .. I was 100 pounds when I got married (28 years ago) gained 45 pounds with my daughter (YIKES) and then turned into a full-blown couch potato after that ...

Then, came Dr. Atkins who REVOLUTIONIZED my life .. and now I have ZERO tolerance for the concept that women are allowed to weigh more as they age! BUNK!

Get out there and move those buns, dadgummit!

GETTING OLD IS MANDATORY; GETTING FAT IS BECAUSE YOU LET IT HAPPEN!

I am glad that Betty has found what works for her. Personally, I do not want to be that thin.

unfortunately for woman it is a proven fact. At about age 30 we lose about 1/2 pound of muscle mass a year. THEN....once menopause hits it is six times that. It is all about hormones etc. Yes, you can change it to a degree with exercise etc. But, men have more lean muscle mass to begin with. So, the odds are against us, but again..... EXERCISE is the key to the battle.

Hey, whatever you're happy with! If you could see my bone structure in person, you'd see why I am not that thin. This "goldilocks" thinks she's about JUST RIGHT.
