hi Lana -- glad to have you join in with us. I'm back on track today -- I spent the weekend pretty much in bed like they told me to do -- my blood sugar numbers were all over the place - this morning I got up and said "enough" -- get back to normal! I'm back to induction for a few days to get back into keotsis -- I'm up to 190 as of this morning....arggggggg!!!!! Hopefully it will come back off fairly quickly.

I mowed the lawn this afternoon - I just couldn't stand it any longer so I went slow and stopped a couple times to rest. I took a nap after I finished but at least it's done.

How is everyone else doing? Hope you had a great day.
    Carole

imagood1 I hope you are doing better. Just take it easy and recover from the accident..the grass will always be there. It is like dishes.

Well day three of Induction AGAIN..lol doing it right and sticking to it this time!! Still no color on the ketostix though. well i think one was a very light pink but won't swear to that. I ended up walking 15083 or 6.11 miles yesterday. 45 min aerobics (3 mile walk with Leslie)in the morning then went for a long walk with my friend in the evening. Too bad she only comes up to her trailer here once a month for a week..I know not an excuse to not walk my self...
Well off for another walk today, but no aerobics today( only ever second day for that one at this time) Gotta get the heart back in shape a bit to accept the extra without trouble..

I am walking to California with the Route 66 group. Come and join us

We went for dinner tonight - 2 years ago today we moved into our home. This is the first home we're bought since we've been married (we rented for 8 years) so this has been very special for us. We went to Outback -- great place for Atkins people to eat! I had shrimp on the barbee (they serve it on a 1/2 grilled romaine lettuce instead of bread. I had a ribeye steak with butter on top, grilled veggies (broccoli, snap peas and yellow squash) plus the salad (no cheese and no croutons) dressing on the side. Who needs anymore than that!

        It was a wonderful evening.

Mom made stew this morning (more of a vegetable soup with roast beef) so before she added carrots and potatoes I took enough out for a couple bowls. I cooked a beef roast yesterday with a lot of extra broth so we could make the stew today. So we started with the broth and cut up roast, added celery, cabbage, onion, tomatoes (then she added carrots and potatoes). When I took my 2 bowls worth out I added some garlic powder and celery powder, red/yellow peppers and zucchini and a large portion of black pepper. I only added 1 ounce of the peppers and 2 ounces of zucchini so it wasn't much but the soup really tasted wonderful. This is something I grew up eating and mom makes it quite often for herself when we have leftover roast beef. I've tried having it before but didn't have enough in it to make it filling or really taste that good -- tonight I finally got it right!! YEA.

I'll be glad when the game is over - when mom's teams (and she has many) are playing that's what we watch....when her teams aren't playing she watches one of the 24 hour news channels.....one day I'll get to make choices again....I know I will!

              Have a great weekend.

Hi again all you 50+'s! Been off line for a while. I started riding my bike (road biking) again, and I love it. I have a mini computer on the front wheel that tells me how far I go. Man, Carole, I don't know how you do it, going 20-25 miles! How long does that take? It takes me 53 min. to go just over 8 miles! Course, it's up and down hills, some stops for water, and a few walks up some higher hills, since I've just started. But I will keep it up. I usually leave about 5:45 a.m. and my little computer tells me it's been 52-55 degrees out! Pretty cool for mid July, but nice for biking. Anyway, gotta get to bed soon. I'll be on more often now, for sure

I ride a stationary bike not a road bike -- so I don't have to worry about traffic, hills etc. I ride 25 miles in 2 hours and 15 or 20 minutes dependng on if I get off the bike more than a couple times (potty break!!). I ride between 16 adn 18 miles per hour.

It's been in the low to mid 70's here the past few days....we have the air off and windows open -- so nice to air the house out. I just heard it's going back into th 80's by Monday but when we normally are in the high 90's low 100's here this time of year this is wonderful weather!

Glad you are back - missed seeing you post!!

Good morning Carole! and all you other 50+ powerful people!!
Wow, I'm wearing a fleece, long-sleeved shirt and jeans, with bare feet so far this morning! cool or what! But you are right, Carole, it is great for exercising Our pool has no heater tho', so neither of us have been in it yet I haven't gotten warm enough working outside to jump in, at water with a 72 degree temp.
Today we are supposed to drive to Owen Sound to pick up a storm door at Home Depot. We were up there yesterday and purchased it, but had the wrong car to bring it home in. This time, we'll take the old station wagon and hope it doesn't shut down on us, while we're driving along! I'll take the phone tho' just in case.

Once we get home, I'd like to take the poor dog out for a much needed walk. He'll be so happy to go. I've been working everyday because of staff vacations, so he has been missing out. I use my spare morning time to ride my bike. I like your idea of mapping out a route and seeing how far I can get each time I ride. Do you use a website? or a regular map? It would be fun to see how long it would take to "ride" up to Sault Ste Marie from here, lol. My brother would be surprised if I could actually do that.

Well, I'd better track my coffee and get some breakfast in me, altho' I'm not really hungry. I put a ham in the crock pot for supper, we haven't had one in ages. Have a good day all you 50+'s! I'm so glad you guys are here, Carole!

Hi Suzanne - there is a challenge for Supporting Members (which I see you are one) called the Route 66 challenge. You start in Illinois at the beginning of the actual Route 66 and go from Illinois to California. There are only a few of us doing it (many started - few remain) Jimmie Jo is the mod for it. You are told how far it is through each state and when you move to the next state you get a suitcase with the old State's flag on it - collecting state flags as you move through the states. I'm just out of New Mexico now in Arizona. Once I get to California I'm going to go backwards to Illinois. It's really fun and helps me stay focused. I don't like adding 2 or 3 miles a day -- I like getting through the states!! I know you're in Canada so maybe you could figure out something along that line to hypothetically go from Providence to Providence up there!! Just an idea.

Good luck getting the door without any car trouble!!
                      Carole

Day 2 of riding 25 miles on the bike -- I feel better now that I'm back at it again....I forgot how good it made me feel to accomplish that everyday.

Breakfast was: an omelet made with 2 eggs, 1oz colored peppers, 1oz onion, 1oz colby/jack cheese and 1Tbsp salsa on top, 1 cup decaf w/splenda, 32oz water

32 ounces of water between breakfast and lunch.

Lunch was: 3oz leftover ribs, 1c broccoli and 1/2c cottage cheese, 32oz water.

32 ounces of water between lunch and dinner.

Dinner is: 3oz hamburger pattie (with 1 tsp s/f relish, 1Tbsp Hellmans & 1/2tsp Hunts low carb ketchup to dunk the hamburger in), 1 cup salad w/Hidden Valley Ranch and 1/2 c canned spinach w/vinegar.

After dinner treat: 1/2c pumpkin desert w/whipped cream. and coffee.

How can you NOT like that type of eating???? Why are so many people so stupid thinking Atkins is bad for your health.....only meat and cheese.....look at the variety of food we eat....it's amazing. It's nice to be able to buy something other than the 90% or 93% hamburger which has little taste....I got 80/20 today ... just enough fat to have all the flavor you want. I just put everything into Fitday and it looks real good!!! I'm finally learning to keep my protein down, after induction I was eating too much protein -- I'm hoping being able to keep it down will help me loose weight again.

I feel renewed and ready to go forward. I made a mini goal for the end of the month -- if I don't make it I won't be upset but it gives me something to look forward to and work toward. Once I get under 182 pounds I will truly be in new territory....that is the lowest I've weighed in years and it's also the lowest I've managed to get to with Atkins. My mini goal is 179 -- I want to be out of the 180's by the first of August!

My original goal of 135 was suppose to be achieved by January 5, 2010 -- 1 year after I started Atkins.....I don't know if I'll make it since I don't loose weight easily but I'll do my best to get close.

Ok I posted this on my diabetic thread but I'll put it here also:

Breakfast: 2 egg omelet w/1oz colored peppers, 1oz onion, 1oz cheddar cheese, 1Tbsp salsa - cup of decaf coffee w/splenda, 32oz water.

morning: drank 32oz water while riding 25 miles on my stationary bike

Lunch: 3/4c stew, 1oz colored pepper strips, 1 radish & 1/2 c serving pumpkin desert. Drank 32oz water with this meal.

                              afternoon: drank 32oz water.

Dinner: 3oz ham steak, 1 serving mock-a-foni & cheese, 2 slices tomato (from the garden), 1c green beans (from the garden).

Wonderful food day! This was the 3rd day of biking - my legs feel so much better and I'm feeling much stronger. Next week I'm going to add exercise videos every other day - I had planned to do that this week but I needed to get back at it slower than I thought. Didn't want to overdo - or possibly injure myself.

Once again, I can't see why people think this is an unhealthy "diet" -- I consider it "just another day".....

Today I mowed the lawn (took about 35-40 minutes) then took a 15 minute break and went downstairs and rode the bike 25 miles. The first 3 and last 3 miles were killer today!!! After dinner we went for a walk so this has been a wild day!

In between today I took a shower, changed the sheets and did 4 loads of laundry - I'm beat tonight....wow --- this has been a wild and busy day!

Breakfast was 2eggs, ham, onion, cheese & salsa scrambled together (in an omelet form) - 32 oz water and a cup of coffee w/splenda

Lunch was 6oz shrimp, homemade shrimp sauce, mock-a-foni & cheese, 32 oz water.

Dinner was 1/2c spaghetti squash, italian sausage pattie, broccoli, salad w/ranch dressing.

                                Great tasting busy day!
