      Oh man, this is a tough one... I really haven't eaten much for unusual foods... I hate to admit it but probably the weirdest thing I've eaten is sashimi like "raw" tuna, squid, etc.... unless you count the weird lunchroom concoctions (vinegar, sugar, ketchup, mustard, someone's hamburger broken up into the liquid) that I've eaten on a dare or the weird things my sisters made me eat when I was a kid.

      If you are in charge of the Atkions program and could change one thing about it and with your change magically the plan would still work what would you change and why?
      Actually, I love the Atkins plan... I don't think I'd alter anything about the plan itself (truthfully). What I would alter, though, is how people feel about it, its reputation so to speak... so that any time someone found out I was on Atkins they would say, "Oh Atkins, good for you. I heard that's kinda neat" instead of "Oh no, not Atkins! Quit right now! It will kill you!" That drives me batty... it's not like I asked them to critique my diet. Oh well.

          Where in the world would you like to visit?
          Ohhh, there are so many places... DH and I would really like to go to Norway. We love Norwegian food, the climate in Southern Norway is much like Maine (where we are from), and we've known some fun Norwegians. Also, we'd like to go to Japan... In the past, I was thinking of teaching ESL there, and I speak quite a bit of Japanese (self-taught =D)

          What is the last book you read and did you like it?
          The last book I read was The Everlasting Story of Nory by Nicholson Baker.
          http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/067...Fencoding=UTF8
          I enjoyed it immensely... It's a novel that is about a little girl in elementary school and her everyday happenings; the neat thing about it is that Baker writes the narrative in a little girl's phrasing, more or less. It's really, really neat. I like pretty much everything Baker's written... his books are light on plot but packed full of philosophy, rumination, and introspection.

              Oooo I need to write that book down, sounds interesting.

              OK, time travel, WHEN would you like to visit and what famous person would you like to meet and what would you ask them (not counting Dr Atkins, we'd all love to talk to him, LOL!)??

              What's under your bed?

              What's your favorite breakfast on Atkins?

              Who's your best support person?

                Oooo... Good question. I've been a jazz musician for many years (did my first paid gigs tagging along with my saxophone teacher at 13), so I think I'd go to the late 1950s and the Neobop movement and try to meet John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter (both primarily tenor saxophonists; I play mostly alto and soprano). I'd ask John Coltrane how he found the strength to keep reaching inside himself even when the world thought he sounded ugly. I'd ask Wayne Shorter if he wanted to have a beer with me.

                What's under your bed?
                A bunch of socks and a couple of magazines. Up until just recently, my husband and I were huuuuuge slobs. I had a rebirth as a decent housekeeper when I went back to school 6 months ago, but the bedroom remains messy (I guess because no one but us has to see it).

                What's your favorite breakfast on Atkins?
                I've never really liked breakfast foods. When I was little, I got yelled at for eating leftovers and drinking soda for breakfast. So now I like eating homemade low-carb chili for breakfast with sour cream and cheese the best... or anything else leftover from last night's dinner, but for traditional breakfast food on Atkins, I will occasionally eat microwave bacon and fried/boiled eggs or a mock danish.

                Who's your best support person?
                A lot of others have said this as well, but I really do think that I'm my own best support. I really want to be active and enjoy my life... I had to decide to want that more than anything or it wouldn't work.

                DH is also an excellent source of peer pressure and a great work-out partner. My mother-in-law and FIL are also on Atkins so they are very helpful and have us up to dinner (as money is tight), give us excess groceries from time to time, and give us free dance lessons (they have a studio). My mother, though not on Atkins right now, understands the plan and always has something suitable for me to eat at our big Sunday dinner (she made barbecue chicken and potatoes--for my chicken, she brushed it with low-carb BBQ sauce (3carbs for 2 tbsp rather than 11 tbsp for everyone else), and she cooked some broccoli just for me to eat. So I really appreciate that.

                Thanks for the questions!!! I love answering them.

                    What's the one thing in Atkins you struggle with?
                    Not drinking coffee. I looove coffee. I have been drinking coffee since I was 9 years old (I know, sad). DH runs a cafe. I know that every serving of coffee has carbs from the grounds, not to mention splenda and heavy cream carbs if I want to dress up my coffee... so I have had to make a compromise. Tuesday through Friday, I have school; every day is an early start and my days are long. Normally, early days wouldn't be a problem but DH is working 2nd shift for the most part so during the week, I often get up at anywhere from 6:00-8:00 a.m. and stay up until 1:00-3:00 a.m. just so I can see him and spend quality time with him (he works weekends when I'm off of school). So Tuesday through Friday mornings, I drink one cup of coffee. Yep, just one small mug (6 oz). And I do not put cream or splenda or anything in it. The rest of the time I drink tea, always with no splenda or cream. I have white tea right now that has almost no caffeine and is full of antioxidants--DH got it for free! White tea is very pricey though (rare, harvested during a limited time from limited areas) so the rest of the time (weekends and Monday) I drink green tea in the morning. If I want a hot drink at night, I drink caffeine-free herbal tea... I know it's not perfect and it's not flawless Atkins, but I've had to do what I have to do.

                        What is your favorite excersise/workout? and how often do you do it?
                        Hmmm... I'd have to say that dancing is my favorite workout... Once a week, DH and I have been going to weekly Friday-night dances put on by his parents (they own/teach at a dance studio). The new session for lessons starts tomorrow (Valentine's day, awesomely enough) and we've signed up for two days per week, so that's 2 hours on Tuesday, 2 hours on Wednesday. I've been playing Dance Dance Revolution at home 20 minutes a day 5 days a week the entire time I've been doing Atkins this go-around (the only one that counts!). A week ago, I added in the 30-minute Walk Away the Pounds: Walk and Kick and I do that every day that I do DDR. I start with the 30-minute WATP to warm up my joints/muscles and then I do 20 mins of DDR.

                        I'm going to have to cut back the number of DDR/WATP days because of the new dance classes so I don't injure myself. So starting this week, it looks like:

                        Monday: 30 min WATP, 20 min DDR;
                        Tuesday: 2 hours swing/waltz classes;
                        Wednesday: 2 hours swing/cha cha/merengue classes;
                        Thursday: 30 min WATP, 20 min DDR;
                        Friday: 2 hour dance;
                        Saturday: 30 min WATP, 20 min DDR;
                        Sunday: rest

                        Sorry long post... I'm just so pleased that I'm doing so much exercise. Honestly, I haven't been active since I was 14 years old and got cut last from the soccer team so that the coach could take one of his daughter's friends (who couldn't pass to save her life) instead of me. When I first started on this WoE, I could barely make it through my 20 minute DDR. I had to stop between every song, drink water, and wait for the strength to go on. Now I can't get enough!! It's like a powerful drug. It feels so good to get up and move.

                            Hmmmm... I don't want to leave anybody out. You guys are all inspirations! That said, I found the "Have you lost 200 pounds?" thread very inspirational. Also Yoly and Discolemonade's pictures are very inspirational to me, because I look a little bit like both of them. But I'm proud of all of you! And I love this board.

                            Who is your role model?
                            My grandfather and my great-grandmother, who are no longer alive. My grandfather moved to the U.S. with only an 8th grade education and almost no English (only French) and worked his fingers to the bone as a janitor so that my dad and his brothers had food to eat. He was a very outspoken man, sometimes incredibly coarse, but I always liked it that he didn't care what people thought of him.
                            My great-grandmother went to college to become a teacher at a time when few did and many frowned on the practice. She was the first woman on my mother's side to go to college. She was feisty but kind-hearted, and wickedly funny... she died the week before I was born, and my mother says I look and act exactly like her. Many people in our family say I'm her reincarnation, which is spooky but cool.

                            Who do you think should win an "International Women's Day Award"?
                            I have a good friend that teaches yoga and art in Boston to autistic and schizophrenic patients in a group home. Some days can be really rough, and a lot of people don't really see the relevance of her work, but the chance for these people to express themselves, it's extremely important to them... everyone has that desire, even people suffering from serious mental illness. I think it takes immeasurable strength and character to keep at it day after day despite the bad times or outbursts the patients might have. She brings light to their dark lives.

                            Do you like Richt's Polls lol had to ask !
                            Of course! Rich is "good people."
                            DH's and my roommate (we have an extra bedroom) saw his siggie pictures on a post here the other day (the dude is always reading over my shoulder while I'm in the internet; he is an internet nanny!) and said, "OMG, look at HIM! Talk about a change!"

                            What will you treat yourself with, once you get down to goal weight?
                            Can you say "ridiculously fabbo wardrobe?" Yes, I've always been a fashion maven at every weight. I'm a very flashy dresser. I shop sales at nice stores and sew so I'll end up with some real gems, I hope. Unfortunately, for the time being, DH has put a ban on buying nice size 18 clothing because he says that I'm just going to shrink out of it. So I am stuck with mostly so-so pants in this size (when I lost weight before, I threw out many of my bigger size clothes saying that I'd never wear them again)... I have a treasure trove of delights at size 16 though... can't wait.

                            What do you think your life will be like in 5 years from now, 10 years from now?
                            Well, we hope to have a house to live in and pay off in 5 years. I'm studying and working my way toward physician's assisting school, so I hope to be a P.A. in 5-10 years. We'll probably have a dog or a cat if we have a house (apartment won't let us have non-tank pets). But other than that, I hope things are pretty much the same (though everything has a habit of changing randomly) because I love my life for the most part!

                            Thanks for the questions!

                              Hey cool, I've been teaching myself Japanese as well for the past 3 years, it's a fun language to learn isn't it? Right now I'm kind of stuck on the kanji, it is really slowing me down but it is kind of exciting to be able to read some of the symbols! If you run into Currvegrrl on the messageboard, she's currently teaching ESL over in Japan as well and loving it. I wish I could do it for a year, but my DH2b would have a serious problem with it I think lol!
