Would a return to the century club be allowed?

Hey all (don't know if anyone here remembers me or not) ...

A couple of years ago I lost a huge amount of weight on Atkins and much of that was due to the support of people on this forum and being able to read posts from other people like myself and know I wasn't alone.

I kind of moved away from here because I was moving away from a weight loss phase and realized that some of my posts about planned "cheat days" and etc. were perhaps counterproductive to some (and also got me a storm of negative feedback). And weight loss wasn't the biggest thing in my world anymore.

Anyway ... if my stats at the bottom still work, at one time I had lost a total of 85 lbs (about 20 of which was water weight -- but I had done very well). IT was feeling great to shop in normal stores again.

I kept the weight off for about a solid year by going to the gym and watching what I ate. Then a couple of things happened ... (excuses, excuses!).

First and maybe most importantly, in a few months period I managed to injure both my achilles tendon (keeping me from my daily mile jog) and my elbow (which kept me out of the gym). Both of these 2 injuries afflicted me to some degrees for better than 6 months!

And then my wife and I went through another IVF (our 5th, the 2nd having also gotten us a daughter) and this time it worked (hallelujah!) and she gave birth to our second daughter about 1.5 months ago.

And I also started travelling every single week instead of most weeks ...

And ... and ... lots of other excuses. It was a difficult pregnancy and I've got to admit I started seeking solace at Taco Bell on many occasions.

So if anyone is still reading ... in a matter of less than a year of unrestricted eating and minimal exercise I have plumped back into my semi-fat pants with a 50 lb weight gain! Now that the 2nd baby is here I'm realizing that the reasons I had for losing weight are stronger than ever (I'm an older father, and need to live long enough to see my grandchildren and be active enough to keep my kids busy) so I'm returning to my old buddy Atkins.

I don't know if I really belong in the century club anymore, since I don't have a full hundred pounds to lose, but I think I should still get membership because I originally started Atkins a hundred pounds up.

BTW -- can anybody give me a status on the old timers I don't see around anymore? Where's pappajack? deflating Diva? The moderators, especially the one who used to create the cool counters (can't remember her name).

There are still many familiar names here too, BTW.

Welcome Back Steve! Congratulations on your new daughter. Life can definitely kick us in the pants sometimes. I always enjoyed your posts (controversial or not) so glad to have you back. You are well on your way to goal. Keep up the good work! Irish Irish is still around but I honestly don't know where PapaJack and Diva are. Some still keep up with them so I'm sure you'll get some other posts about what they're doing. Dawn (MightyMucko) has a full time job and had her fourth baby (a little girl) so she keeps very busy. Anyway, see you around the board.

It sounds like you were around here before I started. Welcome back, and congrats on the new baby. Life gets in the way sometimes, but the important thing is you're back.

Welcome back Steve, of course you can come back, once a member always a member. I as well drifted for similar reasons (a sick child, the antithesis of a good excuse). But you did it once and can do it again.

As far as old timers, papjack gained and self pride won't allow him to post until it's gone, diva is still around, and some others drift in and out. Check out the old timers thread from a couple of weeks ago that'll update you a bit, and lots came out of the woodwork for it.

            Welcome back.

welcome back I saw one of your posts yesterday and was wondering how you were doing.

congrats on the new little girl

OUCH abou those injuries are you healed up now so we can crack that exercise whip?

we got a goalie who does her upper body workouts lifting her baby and as the kid grows so too does her weight for her resistance workouts. maybe you could start with your daughter and rehab that elbow if it isn't all the way back with her. Special bonding time too. check out the goalies exercise topic for some execises you can do with your new DD.

Re: Would a return to the century club be allowed?

Thanks all! I had no doubt I would be welcomed back. Good to see some familiar names, and know I'm not the only one who experienced some issues.

My achilles Tendon continues to bother me from time to time, but my doctor tells me there's nothing to do about it. It doesn't really stop me from doing anything -- I'll bet when I lose some weight I don't notice it so much. I'm too heavy to jog, but the elliptical trainer is just about as good.

The elbow injury was a mystery -- no one could really tell me what was wrong, but it took FOREVER to go away! I haven't actually lifted since, but I will be. I'll be heading back to the gym shortly -- between the new baby and a new job (with the same company) -- I just haven't had time. I should be there next week.

I did see the old timers thread. That was cool.

BTW -- I'm not a frequent poster or anything, but I lurk and read a lot.

Welcome back Steve! Even though I don't think we have met.
Your experience that you describe is very typical of everyone of us that gains the weight back.

We somehow think it will be easier to maintain, then it was to lose.

Also when someone has to exercise to maintain weight (not talking about losing) then they are eating too many carbs.

                  Congrats on your little girl!

                          Thanks all!

Right now I'm staying at induction levels (of course) and it's bringing back all the memories of what it's like to launch into this diet. Right now I'm at that stage of very mixed experiences.

On the one hand I've dropped the water weight so already my clothes are looser and I feel lighter. My energy levels are way up and I just generally feel positive (I think because of the last 2 items combined -- feeling lighter and having more energy).

On the other hand ... I'm jonesing for bad food. No big deal, I expected that. But with a little girl and a wife who's breastfeeding and isn't worried too much right now about calories, there is a lot of bad food available. Don't worry, BTW, I'm not going to give in to it.

I've also remembered all my little "tricks" to stay on the straight and narrow, and I should be OK. Fortunately I've never suffered from induction flu.

Now it's time to start hitting the gym ...

I'm sorry, I have no idea what to say to that but "ohmygod". You're not supposed to adjust how much you exercise to make up for eating more carbs. You're supposed to eat carbs based on how much you exercise. That's like me going and eating like, 5 donuts and then going to the gym for like, 10 hours so I can burn off the carbs from them 'cause I ate them. That's not healthy. That's like, bullemic thinking. and the whole "has to exercise to maintain weight" what if they *have* to exercise to be healthier, to be fitter, to live longer, to be stronger, to feel better about themselves, to be able to do things with their body that they couldn't do if they didn't???! Exercise is not a means to an end!!!

I know I'm still on my endorphin high from the lunchtime workout, but I honestly believe my response would be about the same if I wasn't.

CoSteve - no, you get a 3 month lapse in not being here, at which point you have to either put on the 100 pounds (or whatever amount will make it 100 lbs) again in order to rejoin the club, or get out :P Welcome back.
