  • Sleep appnea

I recently have learned that I have this problem. It is very scary to me!!
This is also a major concern and a big motivator for me in my goal to lose weight. Anyone else have this issue right now? What are your thoughts?

    Re: Sleep appnea

    Angela,

My husband also had sleep apnea, I say had because I haven't heard him snore, or had to nudge him awake because he wasn't breathing for months. He started a low carb plan and has lost only 30lbs, he still has 30 or more to go, and his sleep apena has righted itself. This is doable and you don't have to lose all the weight before you see results. I hope that you are encouraged to know that you will start to see results before you finish the program.

        Angela,

Do you have to use that c-pack machine? I think that's what it's called. If your doctor has prescribed this don't worry I have a friend who uses one and she said that it took her a bit to get used to, but now that she is, she feels really great in the morning, now that she is really sleeping and not waking up all night. My husband was supposed to use one, he got the machine, put it on and it lasted a whole 2 minutes, he's not one for change. It scared me that he would not use this machine. It was years from that point till now. I'm glad he decided to take charge of his health. Angela, if they want you to use the machine, use it, you'll feel better, and when your well rested the weight will come off easier. Lack of sleep has been known to cause weight gain.

          Angela,

Losing weight has helped me a lot in that regard. It's very important.

Also, if you can, give up the cheese. See if cheese affects your breathing?

If you lose enough weight, get active an dkeep on plan you may be able to get rid of it. But remember that's as long as you maintain your lifestyle.

            Re: Sleep appnea

I have sleep apnea and use a c-pap machine. For a lot of people losing weight will take care of the problem because it is the excess weight that is constricting the throat causing the snoring. But I have had sleep apena for years, even when I was much smaller, so for me I don't expect weight loss to cure my sleep apnea. Using the c-pap isn't too bad. I'm sure I'm not the most attractive thing when I wear it, but my husband doesn't seem to mind and it makes a world of difference!
