  • 2nd time around and oh dear me!!!

Hi ya all. This is my 2nd time around with atkins and my first time here on the boards. I am on day 20. During the first two weeks of induction I lost 12 lbs, very pleased with that even though I had lost 18 the first time I did it, but I understand that it can be less the 2nd time around anyways, I got on the scales on day 18 and had gained 10 lbs back and this morning am up 12 pounds. I have stuck to induction, I am not working out as of yet and I do have a major problem with the water intake. I am feeling like confused at what is happening to my body right now and thinking maybe this woe isnt for me this time. I know water is very important but I didnt drink alot the last time and lost 80 lbs with hardly any effort. Do I stick this out? Or do I try something different. Please any opinions or advice would be great. starting weight this time was 230 and now am still 230.

purplemoon, sorry that you are having so much dispair this time around. i think first of all, you should definately start drinking lots of water, atleast 80 oz a day, plus another 8 oz for every 25 lbs you need to lose. secondly, if you could post a couple of daily menus for some of the more experienced atkineers to look over, i'm sure they would be glad to give you some imput as to whether there are things that may be causing you to slip back and gain those pounds you lost during the first 2 weeks of induction. everyone on this board are very supportive and insightful. through my first time and now the second time around, they have helped answer many questions i've had about menus and things i should and shouldn't eat. I am just restarting at this woe(day 4), so I know how you feel at gaining the original weight lost back. Just stay positive, and keep reading the boards, they definately help.

I wish you much success and remember to drink your water.

I agree with moniegail. Drinking that water is essential. If we don't, then our bodies hold on to the water we do have. It also helps to flush out all the bad stuff. If you have trouble with working out, try something else that's physical. Dancing is a real workout itself. A walk around the block, or even up and down some stairs helps. As long as you get your body moving somehow. The more you can move, the more you will be ABLE to move later. Even vigorous housecleaning helps!

Don't count on just your scale to measure your loss. Measure yourself all over. Find some clothes that are tight on you and try them on each week to see if they fit better. Or take some of you larger clothes and watch how huge they are getting on you.

Another very good tool is to read the boards here. See what others are doing, how they are coping, what they're eating, etc. Check out the pictures everyone posts. Watch them melt away. It's awesome! And even better...post. Let everyone else know how you're doing and get some feedback like you're doing now. It does help.

I've done this more than once myself and the weight does come off slower for me, too. Last time, I lost 72 pounds with no real effort. Now I am doing it completely by the book and it's going slow, but it's going. I, too, get frustrated and have days that I want to give up, but then I realize that I don't want to be in the same position next year...with an extra 50 pounds to lose!

Don't give up! Don't let those carby foods talk you out of it again. You can do this! I just know it!

You have GOT to drink enough water, or you will hurt yourself. If you don't like the taste, get a filter and keep refilling bottles, that's what I do cuz I'm cheap and picky.

Please let us know how you are doing!
