Many posts show people cruising along on their WOE and suddenly something happens. I thought this would be a good 'heads up' for everyone to see what the culprits are in order to avoid falling into the same trap.

Re: POLL: What makes people falter?
Awesome thread - great idea!!!
For me, i would "plan" out cheats for holidays... then i would rationalize the one cheat into two, into three... and so on or so forth. No more of that... now i just know this WOE is for life...

Always have the foods you can eat on hand. Always. Peanuts in your purse if you have to! Even if you an emotional eater like myself, eating the right foods makes all the difference.
VARIETY! Try new recipes and foods! You may be surprised by what you like.

Re: POLL: What makes people falter?
Oooh, whoops... i guess i answered the question before the poll was in place! I put down 'stress and life situations' for me, because holidays and stuff sort of fall under that category...

Re: POLL: What makes people falter?
Yep, I'm with life situations.
Now I will say that my first time around - I got to comfortable. People were saying I looked great, that I didn't need to lose anymore weight, etc. But the cold hard truth was that I still weighed 208 pounds and did need to lose more weight. Carb creep happened and here I sit now.

Re: POLL: What makes people falter?
I chose the last option, although it isn't exactly what happened to me. In my case it was more I was so rigid on the plan that I broke and then it was all down hill. People (including me!) all too often see this as a way to lose weight and not a way to eat forever.Paul

I hit burn out from working it all too hard, and living in a rut with my food and exercise and I woke up one morning and said, "that's it, not today" and it has been three years since I felt anyting like I feel right now...74 8/1/06

Re: POLL: What makes people falter?
I chose all 3 except for the frankenfoods, because I must beware all of these situations. There's always the little devil talking into one ear when you're vulnerable to suggestion, be it from stress or flattery; sometimes the little angel falls asleep at the post on the other shoulder, and next thing you know, you've blown the diet & the seams in your pants.~Susan

Re: POLL: What makes people falter?
i voted the last option.
when i did atkins the first time back in 1975, i was coming off the birth of my second baby. i had gained a ton of weight with that pregnancy. atkins was the new rage and it seemed easy enough to do. i lost the weight i had gained and some more. i ended up being smaller than i had been since high school. but after a time, old ways sat in. i thought i got to goal and life is good, i don't need to do atkins anymore.
that was then and this is now. then it was a lose weight fast, look great plan. now, it's for life. i'm older and i sure don't want to back peddle at this stage of the game.
