  • Had Anyone Read Dana Carpender's books

Hey, I know we follow DANDR, and I am devoted! Last time I did Atkins, I went to the library and got DANDR and Protein Power. I loved how the compliemented each other's research. I followed Atkins then and now. They are different programs, but they explain the foundational facts about insulin, sugars, insulin resistence. Give a bit of a global look. Well, I picked up a book by Carpender at the library, "How I Gave Up My Low-Fat Diet and Lost 40 Pounds"...
This gal approaches things with a touch of humor, often describing her own reactions. What grabs you is her estonishment over trying low carb and all the amazing things that came with it besides weight loss. Then she has become a researcher, going back into last century to find and read the early reports about low carb dieting. It is very good, and then she gets into the different diets, and the over view of the two basic diets, which are Atkins and protein power...
It's a very book up until the over view of diets. That's where I have gotten to.

I had most of her cookbooks. I was disappointed that so many of them called for blackstrap molasses. I felt that if I used those recipes it would then not be a clean induction and I wanted to do an extended induction at the time.

Re: Had Anyone Read Dana Carpender's books

I have her cookbook and love the things I've been able to make. I think it's mostly geared for people at goal/near goal or have a lot of carbs to be able to splurge on. Some things are very high.. others are low. But I did like all her lil quips about this recipe or that and the Forward at the front of the book.

The induction friendly recipes are sparse in the books....but the majority of the recipes are for people who are on OWL. Just a friendly reminder that we don't have to stay in extended induction and still lose weight!!! Enjoy those recipes, still lose weight! Yay! LOL
