  • Back Again...Have Questions

Okay, started Atkins on 3/26/07 at 227 pounds. Three weeks ago, I was down to 194. Went on vacation - spent nine days in Chicago with old friends and gained back 6 pounds. I am ready, willing and able to begin a strict induction and get back on the wagon. My question is - I've heard that "Atkins virgins" lose a lot of weight the first time around, but the second time around is not as successful? Is that true? Anyone who has gone through a similiar experience and can offer insight would be greatly appreciated. I have my ketosticks ready to go and all carbs out of my kitchen. Will I have success again?

    Re: Back Again...Have Questions

You will have success if you stick with the plan. Some of us lose more slowly - some have the same or quicker weight loss. We all need to remember, tho, it isn't about "quick weight loss". It really REALLY isn't. It is about learning to eat so we can have happy healthy lives from Now On. If you stick with this, the quick loss will happen during induction. After that, we need to learn patience whether this is our first, second or one MILLIONTH time. In 4 months I have lost 20 lbs. Not exactly fast but I feel so much better (Husband says I look better too). Today I feel like I am starting all over again. Going on Induction to get back to the straight and narrow. I do not want to be back where I was 4 months ago. I am still learning about myself which I have learned is the key to this permanent healthy lifestyle. So, to answer your question, yes - you will have success.

I can only speak for myself, but here's my experience:

The first time I did Atkins, Lost about 9lbs during induction and another 30 or so before I fell off the wagon. Took me about 5 months to lose the 30.

The second time, I lost about 7 lbs during induction and another 40 in about 7 mo.

Then I started and stopped for about a week at a time, max, over the course of this past spring - maybe 4 times.

I started about 3.5 weeks ago, with a firm committment. I lost 13 lbs in the first week, nothing in the second, and have lost another 2 lbs since I started OWL about 5 days ago. It appears that I'm losing more faster right now than the other times.
      Start date: 7/29/2007

      Scale: SW:235 CW:193
      GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

      Mini goals:
      215 - met 9/10/07
      205 - met 10/17/07
      195 - met 2/20/08
      180

      I survived a two-month stall!

Not everyone is the same. My first time on induction I dropped about 10 pounds. The second time around I lost 22--I think it was 22. Pretty sure it was, I'll have to go re-read my journal.

Anyway, if you make it clean you'll lose. The number makes no difference.

            Good luck on your restart!

Congratulations on your decision to re-commit!

Looking back in my old date book, I am pretty close to the first time.

First time I lost 8 lbs. on induction and it took me about 3 1/2 months to get my goal of 150 (loss of 20 lbs) and then another 3 months to get to 145.

This time I lost 7 lbs. on induction (and to be honest, it wasn't a perfectly 'clean' first two weeks ). And I imagine I will lose about as slowly as before; which was a sporactic 1 lb. a week. But I'm trying to keep thinking like Tack and remember this is about a life change, not quick fix. That is what's going to keep the weight off.

                Re: Back Again...Have Questions

welcome back. I would have to agree with Candy, it's not about quick weightloss, it's about creating a sustainable lifestyle that rebuilds your relationship with carbs....
It's all about creating healthy habits, with low carb foods, alot of water and exercise. I am in my 13th month, I've lost basically 85lbs...it came off a little at a time, and yet my focus was on lifestyle so I could stay on plan to loose all the weight and then have Learned how to live, SO I COULD KEEP IT OFF...
My advice is your body will thrive in KETOSIS, and your body will shed the weight at it's own speed....you help by creating a lifestyle of good nutrition, water and exercise that fits your lifestyle...
If you are truly addicted to carbs and your body behaves badly with bad carbs, what other choice do you have, no matter what the speed...
