  • Can I Join In?

I have never posted in here before.

Although, I have been lurking for many months.
I look forward to the posts from Outback Jess and others for inspiration.

I am normally always in the Exercise forum, particularly the running threads.

I have managed to keep 40-50 pounds off for a while now, but I am not making anymore progress and seem to backslide a day or so every week to derail myself.

I need a good kick in the butt to get my head back on straight.

I haven't done any damage that a couple of good weeks wouldn't cure, but I find myself in that awful "I'm CONTENT where I'm at" place.

I have lost 50+ pounds on Atkins at least twice. I am scared to death of putting the weight back on.

Right now ALL my skinny clothes still fit, but they're not fitting as well as they did a few weeks back.

I have a marathon in 6 weeks. That should be inspiration enough, but for some reason it is not.

Sorry to ramble on. I find it hard to lay out my failure to make this a WOL.

Any thoughts? Tips? Slaps to the face? All are welcome.

Is it OK to check in with the Roll Call thread each day?

Are you kidding?? Of course you are welcome in here and in the roll call. We'd all be delighted to have you stick around.

I'd love to get back into running but my knees yell at me whenever I try. I'm still too large for that.

Maybe you should try joining in some challenges to keep you focused and motivated??

It's great to see you around and stick with it--you're an insipration to everyone who can't wait to be where you are. (like me!!!!)

      Re: Can I Join In?

Hello and welcome Rich! We insist you check in with roll call. It lets us all know you're still with us. It's one of my biggest motivators. I have a guilty conscience and if I don't check in I'm afraid they'll think I've boo booed and I'm too ashamed to report. They probably think no such thing, but it's my guilty conscience.

I sooooo wish I'd maintained that 50 pound loss I had a few years back my first time on Atkins. 50 pounds off in 6 months and I BLEW IT! So, here I am again and so far, so good. Coming here is a great way to keep me motivated. I read about others that have/had bigger (no pun intended) obstacles than me and they are succeeding and it keeps me moving forward.

As for your awful "content" place...I ask you this. As a runner, do you just go so many miles and decide "this is far enough", or do you keep going until you reach the finish line?

And I expect to see you report for roll call tomorrow!!!!

Move out of the way, Meena. I gotta give Rich a big kick while I still have my running shoes on. <grin>

Rich, glad you stopped by. Pick a chair and it'll be yours to sit at whenever you come in here to read and post. No, not that one. That's mine.

No, not that one, either - byker claims that one.

So yeah, I, too, have lost 40+ lbs twice and gained it all back, and I'm afraid, and SO SHOULD YOU BE!

What do you feel like doing? Going back a couple of rungs? Doing a two-week clean induction? Start posting your menu? Let us all line up to swat you on the behind?

          Re: Can I Join In?

          Hello there, Rich

I definitely remember seeing your siggie pics on the board before. We would be very happy to have you join in on the roll call every morning.

Ah, that "content" place... I know exactly what you mean and it is very dangerous territory for me. That, coupled with not sticking with Atkins to the letter, led to my major backslide for a few years. I'm back 100% and doing better than I ever did the first time.

As you said, you haven't done any damage that a couple of good weeks wouldn't cure. Make a commitment, and do your best every day to carry it out. You will be just fine.

Stay close to the board and post often... best wishes.

Rich- well you're back, that's good. You are starting in the right place. It would be awesome for you to hop on to the boards for roll call. I recently started doing that and it makes me feel much more accountable for my actions.

I have gotten so much insight, inspiration, and courage from the people on this board.

You have a marathon in 6 weeks? That's awesome.

Inquiring minds want to know?....I'm with bykerdruid on this one

                  Re: Can I Join In?

Hey Rich, man here you are...I bet I can relate to you on so many levels...We're both involved with the "end of the weightloss" part of the journey, and we're both training for an endurance level sport that takes so much time and training.
I've been luck in that I've maintained my weight, but have not been as strict with myslef as I use to be...Nothing illegal food wise, but not a tight ship.
Have you experienced that when you train long and hard it creates a new level of food demand in your diet....I know Adena has experienced it and Julie has too...We find ourselves starving.... When i "go the distance" I end up needing more food...and just when i think I'm fine, I'll start to crash and need more food.....
That happened yesterday and I had to pull over and get some nuts....all of a sudden I'm on empty and not doing well...
I'm in the tapering part of things for my triathaon this weekend....Did a light bike ride yesterday and will trot 3mi this morning....and I can say it's gonna be great to do this, but then I will be able to work out harder again...
This week with things so light, I'll be checking my hunger levels and see if they actually quiet down for me.
