What is it about homemade salads. I can never get mind to taste as good. I have even brought resturaunt dressing home and used it on my own salad and it still is not the same. Does anyone else find the same thing? I would love to have a nice salad at home and really enjoy it. Usually I just eat it to get my veggies in. Also does anyone know of a good low carb thousand island, or french dressing? I am getting tierd of ranch and ceasar.

Re: Homemade Salads
I can't answer your question about the dressing, but I can give you the recipe for two of my favorite salads.
One comes from the Columbia Restaurant, and the recipe is as follows:
http://www.columbiarestaurant.com/r...eaturedItemID=2
'1905' Salad Columbia Restaurant Recipe
Salad Ingredients
½ head iceberg lettuce
2 ripe tomatoes, cut in eighths
½ cup Swiss cheese, cut in julienne strips
½ cup ham, cut in julienne strips (or turkey or shrimp)
¼ cup green Spanish olives, pitted
2 teaspoons grated Romano cheese
Salad Dressing Ingredients
1/8 cup white wine vinegar
½ cup extra-virgin Spanish olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoons lemon juice
Preparation
Toss together all salad ingredients in a bowl, except Romano Cheese.
Mix garlic, oregano, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Beat until smooth with a wire whisk. Add olive oil, gradually beating to form an emulsion. Stir in vinegar and lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.
Add dressing to salad and toss well. Add Romano Cheese and toss one more time. Serves 4.

My other favorite is my own recipe, and I don't really follow a recipe, per se. I just add the ingredients "to taste". I gave you measurements but you can use more or less to your liking on the ingredients.
One bag of salad, I like the "Italian Blend"
One small handful of fresh basil, chopped finely. I also have found a product from Litehouse. It's a blend of freezed dried herbs called "salad blend". If I don't have fresh basil I use this, and it's awesome.
Two tablespoons of onion, I use vidallia when available, finely chopped.
1/4 cup of olive oil. I like Colvita. Regular, not extra virgin.
Juice of half a lemon.
4 ounces of good Feta, either Bulgarian or French. Please try to avoid using American Feta. It doesn't even compare.
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.
Mix everyting together in a large bowl. It's delish.
