  • Vitamin deficiency

I just discovered that I have been suffering from a vitamin deficiency! I take a multi everyday and thought I was fine, but lately I've been weak as a kitten and been kept awake at night by leg cramps. I've taken various remedies for the cramps like selenium and potassium and they helped a little but I was still getting them.

I know 'the book' recommends vit B but I thought I was getting enough from my multi. Well, I was wrong! I started taking a B-complex last week and today, I feel great. My legs had been aching so badly that I had to take 2 Advil before I could exercise on the elliptical machine but today, I walked further and faster than I have in months without the painkillers!

So I'm recommending to everyone: Take those vitamins!

    Re: Vitamin deficiency

I found out years ago that if I didn't take my B's I would get anxious and depressed. There is a vital 'sheath' around your nerve fiber that will deteriorate if you don't get enough!

I am so happy you found the supplement that makes you feel better and function well!

I didn't know that about the sheath around the nerve fibers. That's interesting. I'm just amazed at how much better I feel now and never dreamed that something so simple as could make that much difference. I eat lots of veggies and take multi's so I don't know how I became deficient in the first place. Maybe I should change to a different brand of multi's. Are there major differences in the brands?

        Re: Vitamin deficiency

You would do well to keep taking your multi and the extra vitamin B's. Just make sure it is a "complex" of all the B vitamins. It may be called Hi Potency b complex or stress complex.. but there are several and they work together.

Lots of things contribute to vitamin B deficiencies. Birth control pills did it to me, that is how I learned about it years ago, BC sent me into a total depression.. B complex vitamins took care of it. Smoking, heavy sugar consumption, drinking alcohol, also contribute to a deficiency. Most vegetables aren't that high in B vitamins, it is present in whole grains and beans and such, fish, dairy, eggs. You are unlikely to do overdo supplements of B vitamins, as they aren't stored, so you are safe taking the extra on top of your multi.

Thanks for the information! Sorry I didn't reply sooner but my laptop wasn't working right so my brother-in-law had it for several days but it's fine now.

I didn't know that depression could be caused by birth control pills! That explains a lot because years ago when I was on them, I battled depression for a long time. Thank God those days are over! But I don't smoke, I drink very little and don't eat sugar so I don't know what caused it now. I've only been taking multis for less than a year so it must have just built up during the time I didn't take them.

Anyway, thank you for the information. It's appreciated!
