I was wondering what should you lose in 1 week I have lost 12 pounds . I have followed the diet and have drank nothing but water . I know it is good thing but I want long term weight loss .
I think many people have lost that amount in one week. My brother did. A lot of it can be water weight in the first couple weeks, but it sure helps your motivation

Hi Tacolvr and welcome to ADBB! I hope you like it here as much as I do!
How much you will lose in the first few weeks depends on a lot of things such as how heavy you are and how much you need to lose as well as age, gender and height, etc. Why don't you give us some stats about yourself and we'll be able to give you more accurate advice. For now, I think 12 pounds is fantastic! And the whole point of Atkins is to teach you how to live a healthy lifestyle with a healthy way of eating (and exercising!)-- it is all about long term successes so don't worry that it isn't long term! I'm sure that losing 12 lbs in one week probably makes this feel like a crash diet. It is not at all! This is a long term WOL (way of life) and a wonderful way to get yourself healthy (and thin!).
I really recommend reading the book (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002) if you haven't already- it really helps with answering a lot of questions and with teaching you how to build a healthy lifestyle. Good luck and welcome!

Expect things to really slow down. Shift your thinking, quick weight loss is not good or healthy. Slow consistent weight loss with good habits in place are what you need to aim for.
Initially your body is getting rid of a lot of water weight. This is because when we consume and store carbs, we store 3 times the gms in water that are in the carbs....so as the body is adjusting, it is sheding water weight...but just think, we are carrying around that water weight, and now it's gone.
Most people can expect around 1-3lbs a week. I always thought 5lbs a month was excellent. Soon your body will start to try and stall you, but again, if you are creating a lifestyle, you just keep establishing a way of eating and living with good healthy activity.
Goooood luck to you!
