  • Will it work again?

I did Atkins back when everyone in the world did it..... 2002ish and lost down to 110 pounds (which was actually too small for me) ANYWAY, I am now at 152 which is the most I have ever weighed and I hate it. I also know that there are people out there that would love to be at 152 - it is all about how comfortable we are in our own skin and I am very uncomfortable in mine right now. I am miserable with myself and have tried everything else and I can't seem to stick with any plan. I have tried Atkins again a few times with no success but I am sure I didn't have my heart in it and give it time to work again. But I read somewhere that it will only work on your body one time. Has anyone else ever heard this? Is there any truth to it?

I went shopping today and made my chicken salad and deviled eggs and I am ready to start induction full force tomorrow. I know the book like the back of my hand so I know what I have to do.

It is nice to know that I will have the support of this group! I just hope I can figure out how to work this board!

Looking forward to losing with you all!

    Re: Will it work again?

Linda, you've come back to the best place in the world to be. I just rejoined on the 1st of January, and I have already lost 16 pounds I'm kind of at a standstill, but I can tell that I am still losing inches. It'll work again for you, too. I haven't been back on plan since 2005. Good luck, and keep posting to this board!!

      Re: Will it work again?

It will work again if you work it. I did way better the second time around. I was more dedicated and was very determined. The only thing that may happen is that you are four years older and you may have to eat a few less calories than the first time and you may have to exercise a bit more, but it will be worth it.

If you go into it with a positive attitude you can be successful. How uncomfortable are you at 152 pounds? How miserable are you at 152 pounds? Decide what price you are willing to pay to weigh 125 pounds again. Pay the price and never look back.

      Sunny!

Hi Linda. I'm starting over too. I was down to 125 in 2002 on Atkins, and now I'm a whopping 200lbs (after having a baby...almost 3 years ago). I just started a new "clean" induction today too. Good luck, and let me know how you're doing. What's your recipe for chicken salad? I need a good one!

You have found the Second Time Around Club, better known as STAC. Doing Atkins the second, fifth or twentieth time is different than the first time. You will get support geared to doing it for a second time at an older age and at a different stage in your life.

                    Re: Will it work again?

To add some more confidence in STAC, in 2004 I lost 60lbs in 6 months and have since put it back on, I restarted on 01/03/09 and am already down 12lbs and 19.5 inches! It works, just stick with it and make sure you do your measurements so that when the scale isn't moving, you have them to fall back on to see your sucess! In fact, today I got my first "I can tell you are getting smaller comment"...the comments I used to love to get in 2004 and come back to me in 2009 and once they start, you know they do not stop! Best of luck to you! Welcome to STAC!

                        Re: Will it work again?

I hope so too! I have come back to Atkins after about 6 months off of it.

I lost about 65lbs the first time, got a little too small, gained about 10lbs back, and then maintained for about 3 years. I started creeping up in weight after a bad break-up and even maintaining my eating lifestyle couldn't stop it. I switched to a sensible eating plan, with lots of exercise, but continued to gain. I don't understand how I can eat less than 2000 calories, exercise 5 days a week and gain weight. So here I am back to the one thing that has worked for me an my weight.

I started back up on Jan. 2nd. I was at a high weight from the holidays and lost 10lbs the first 2 weeks. I haven't really lost since, but I feel so much better. So I'm just hoping to keep at it, keep up the exercise, and hope a few lbs finally come off.

Nice to see everyone on here again!!

                          Higgies,

I totally understand what you are going through! I'm going through a divorce, and I managed to put on every single damn lb that I took off. I kickbox 3-4 days a week, and I tried to eat little to nothing, hoping that I could have my cake, and eat it too. But, Atkins has been the only thing that has ever helped me stay fit and slim. It's embarrassing to have fallen off the wagon so fast and hard, but a breakup will do that to you.

I am also starting again, I'm in your position, I am not fat or what anyone would say fat, but like you I want to lose to feel comfortable in my clothes again. I had a hysterectomy about 4 months ago and being so tired from that and eating to keep up some strength I have gained at least 10lbs I can tell without weighing in. We can do this....... Good luck to you and we can stick it out, like you I know what to eat and how to do it.

                              Re: Will it work again?

This time around i'm much more aware and confident with my eating. The first time is a little trippy because you're losing so much so fast you kind of sit back and go ".... really..??" And its easy to take it for granted.

But I can tell you that i'm only on day 8 of induction, and i've already lost more weight than in 20 days of induction the first time I did this 5 years ago. I'm more prepared and more responsible for my actions and much more determined to do it.
