  • Trying it again, but a little confused.

Hi, I am new to the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board, but not to Atkins.
I've tried everything...Weight Watchers, L.A. Weightloss, Slimfast, etc.
The only time I ever lost any significant amount of weight was with Atkins (though it was only 15 lbs, I was ecstatic because it was the first time I had seen the scale move at all)
It took me 2 years to gain it back. Over those two years I'd look to Atkins to lose weight if I needed to drop some weight quickly (before an event, vacation, etc.) but it never really worked well again. I also went through phases with exercise, I would get really into working out, then lag, then get into it again. But my weight stayed constant until I got hired on a campaign and the high stress, long hours, horrible eating habits got me back up to my old weight.

I'm currently back to my original weight (175) and want it gone! I'm in a more low stress, regular hours job. And this time I'd really like to stick to Atkins to get a lot more off...my far off goal is 130 but I would be happy with 150 for now. (I am 5'9" so really low numbers are harder to get to. 125 is the lowest "healthy weight" for my height, according to BMI)

So I started again yesterday, did the whole "no carb shopping trip", rid my house of bread, pasta, cookies, etc. and got my boyfriend to do it with me too.

I'm half way through day two and I'm concerned that I'm messing something up because I don't have any of the carb cravings or other typical beginning-induction side effects. I havent re-read the book, but I did refersh myself with the FAQ's and didn't even buy anything that wasn't on the acceptable foods list. No weight has come off yet but its only day two so I know nothing would be showing up.
The "problem" is that, I pretty much feel great! I wake up feeling well rested, I still drink coffee (one cup in the morning) but I don't feel like I need it like I did before, and I don't have horrible cravings during the day, and I don't feel like I completely lack energy. It's the total opposite of the way I felt at the beginning of Induction last time I was succesfull with Atkins.

Is it possible that, even though it has been two years, my body adjusted more quickly to the lack of carbs since it has been through this before? Or am I screwing up?

Any advice would be helpful! I just want to make sure I'm not missing forgetting some huge thing.

Here is what I have eaten:

    Day 1:
Breakfast: 2 hardboiled eggs, coffee (black)
    Snack: 1 babybel cheese
Lunch: Tuna salad on Iceberg lettuce
    Snack: Celery and bleu cheese
Dinner: Chicken/broccoli/cheese casserole (from this website Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Main Dish Recipes)

    Day 2:
Breakfast: 1/2 cup of egg salad, coffee (black)
Lunch: 5 slices of turkey wrapped in Provolone
    Snack: Celery and bleu cheese.

    "no carb shopping trip"
From your menus, I see you are eating some carbs. That's good! "No carb" would be bad.

I would not worry about it. Not everyone feels yucky in the first days of Induction. I think Jackie Eberstein (she worked with Dr. Atkins for 30 years) was saying that about half of the people experience "Induction flu" symptoms.

Also, even if you experienced these symptoms last time, it does not mean you will experience them now. It's not unusual.

The foods in your menus look fine. How many net carbs are you eating there? How many of these come from vegetables?

Check the amount of cheese you are eating. Should be no more than 3-4 oz per day.

Your menu looks fine. Do consider going thru all of the phases, OWL, pre-maintenance & maintenance getting on & off diets isn't great for your health Best wishes for success on your journey,

        Thanks for the responses.

Still haven't lost anything 4 days in! My boyfriend who is eating the same exact things as me (I make every meal and split it...literally eating the same amount of the same ingredients) has lost 5lbs!

What is worse is that my boss literally just MADE me eat a piece of candy! I told him I wans't eating carbs/sugar and he said that wasn't an excuse, I had to try it. It was just a small butter mint, but I feel horrible. I can't wait to go home and run on the treadmill to get as much of it out of my system as possible!

The beginning of this has been discouraging but I'm going to stay on it...I can't go back to low-cal/low-fat starvation diets!

          >> What is worse is that my boss literally just MADE me eat a piece of candy!>>

Really? He tied you to a chair and pried your mouth open with a spoon and force fed you?

I would talk to your HR people.

          >>he said that wasn't an excuse, I had to try it.>>

Well ... you had a choice. You can say, "No, thank you. I can't have sugar per my doctor".

Or you can say, "No, thank you" and walk away.

Here's the deal ... now he's learned he can bully you. A small butter mint here ... well, you see how it can progress.

How much cheese are you eating ... in ounces? You seem to have a lot of cheese, and not so much vegetables.

If you are using shredded cheese, you have to shred your own. Shredded chesse from the store is not acceptable as it normally contians illegal ingredients to keep it from clumping.
